Reports
【Reflection】
This programme focused on “The Future of Green Investment for
Sustainable Growth and a Circular Economy”, providing a
comprehensive introduction to the potential and investment
environment of Central Java Province.
At the outset, the province’s population scale, market
potential and strategic geographic position were outlined,
highlighting its diverse opportunities for business. The
development status of infrastructure—including international
airports in Semarang and Surakarta, seaports, railways, and
electricity and telecommunications networks—was also
presented, underscoring the province’s strengths in
manufacturing and logistics.
In the section on Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and industrial
estates, specific initiatives within key hubs such as the
Batang SEZ and the Wijaya Kusuma Industrial Estate were
introduced. These included examples of multinational companies
already operating in the region and contributing to job
creation and local industrial development. Renewable energy
initiatives, including solar, micro-hydro and geothermal
power, as well as the use of refuse-derived fuel (RDF), were
also showcased, clearly demonstrating the province’s active
efforts towards sustainability.
During the Q&A session, participants, including Japanese
companies, raised concrete questions regarding investment
returns and licensing procedures. Responses to these questions
helped clarify operational transparency and available support
mechanisms, indicating the high level of interest among
attendees.
Overall, the programme served as a platform where Central Java
Province clearly demonstrated its commitment to balancing
economic growth with environmental conservation, while
expanding opportunities for international collaboration.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Following the programme, Central Java Province has continued
to advance initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable
investment. For the individual investment proposals and
projects presented during the forum, one-to-one consultations
have been held with participating companies, helping to
identify priority areas and specific technology needs.
At the Batang SEZ, improvements are underway to strengthen
logistics functions and enhance support systems for incoming
companies, including better tax incentives and more
streamlined licensing procedures. Collaboration with a major
battery manufacturer is also progressing towards establishing
a new research and development facility, contributing to
technological innovation in the green energy sector.
At the Wijaya Kusuma Industrial Estate, further expansion of
solar power installation plans is being considered, alongside
enhanced environmental measures such as additional wastewater
treatment facilities and the increased use of recycled
water.
The provincial government is also working with local
universities and research institutes to reinforce human
resource development and industry–academia collaboration.
Going forward, Central Java aims to further improve
information provision and consultation services for investors,
while steadily building the foundations for sustainable
industrial growth. These continued efforts are expected to
deepen international partnerships and support the province’s
long-term vision for sustainable development.
