Reports
【Reflection】
This programme was a business forum focusing on sustainable
manufacturing in Indonesia and the implementation of the
SDGs.
The opening session introduced representatives from the
Indonesian Ministry of Industry, industrial estates, and
companies. The forum aimed to strengthen collaboration with
Japan, promote environmentally responsible manufacturing, and
provide opportunities to support sustainable industrial
growth. In his keynote address, the Deputy Minister
highlighted government initiatives, investment promotion,
export market expansion, and competitiveness enhancement. The
forum provided opportunities for collaboration, business
matching, and learning through product exhibitions.
During the forum, the Industrial Hills Industrial Estate
presented case studies covering site location, transport
infrastructure, the planned expansion of an electric vehicle
battery factory, and the long-term involvement of Japanese
companies. These presentations offered insights into the
region’s sustainable industrial foundations and investment
environment. PT Evergen Resources introduced a biomass
business utilising microalgae, tiny organisms that produce
oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide, which can also be used in
health foods, cosmetics, and biofuels. The company is
exploring the use of Spirulina and Hematococcus strains for
sustainable environmental solutions and high-value products,
providing a concrete example of environmentally conscious
technology. PT Onduline Indonesia showcased initiatives
including earthquake- and wind-resistant lightweight roofing
materials, the use of recycled fibres, and reduced carbon
footprint, illustrating practical approaches to sustainable
product development.
Furthermore, MoU signings between government and companies, as
well as collaboration with NEDO, highlighted the potential for
technology transfer and international cooperation, offering
information on long-term industrial development. Panel
discussions and workshops shared insights on building circular
economy-based supply chains, ESG and carbon certification,
product certification and market access challenges, and
possible solutions. These sessions facilitated exchanges and
networking among participants and provided opportunities to
learn from advanced examples of sustainable manufacturing,
offering information that can inform future international
cooperation and industrial investment decisions.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Following the forum, initiatives supporting sustainable
manufacturing in Indonesia have continued. Companies such as
Industrial Hills Industrial Estate, PT Evergen Resources, and
PT Onduline Indonesia are advancing technological innovation
and product development to expand sustainable industrial
models. Collaboration between government and industry,
including MoU-based international partnerships, is ongoing,
and these efforts are expected to stimulate regional economic
development and the growth of green industries.
In addition, ESG and carbon certification knowledge shared
during the forum has informed the acquisition of
certifications, supply chain improvements, and environmental
impact reduction initiatives. Evergen continues to develop and
commercialise microalgae-based products, expanding
applications in health foods, cosmetics, and biofuels.
Onduline is promoting the use of recycled materials and
enhancing energy-efficient manufacturing processes to support
the wider adoption of sustainable building materials. These
initiatives also contribute to job creation and improved
investment conditions in the region.
Moreover, opportunities for international networking and
business matching continue, enhancing global recognition of
Indonesia’s sustainable manufacturing sector and its potential
for overseas market expansion. Leveraging the collaborative
networks and technology exchange established during the forum,
government, industry, and research institutions are working
together to promote the ongoing development of sustainable and
innovative manufacturing models. Moving forward, initiatives
grounded in the principles of the SDGs and the circular
economy are expected to advance, supporting both sustainable
industrial development and environmental conservation.
