Reports
【Reflection】
ICEF is an international platform established in 2014 through
Japan’s initiative, with the aim of solving climate change
issues through innovation in the energy and environmental
fields. By inviting ministers from countries around the world,
leading experts and leaders in various fields, ICEF promotes
discussion and cooperation among academia, industry, and
government stakeholders.
12th ICEF, which was held over two days, Wednesday, October 8
and Thursday, October 9, as part of “Tokyo GX Week,” an
intensive series of international conferences focused on
energy and environment, aiming to realize Green Transformation
(GX). Under the main theme of “ Green Transformation (GX) and
Security,” discussions were held on a wide range of
technologies and topics that are critical to addressing global
warming, including international collaboration for carbon
neutrality and security, promotion of clean hydrogen
technologies, natural hydrogen, the future of renewable
energy, carbon dioxide removal and utilization, circular
economy and startups, utilization of nuclear energy, and
adaptation and resilience to climate change for security.
In opening remarks, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry,
Mr. Muto Yoji, emphasized the importance of accelerating GX to
achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the key role of innovation
in a rapidly changing global landscape, and his expectations
for further advancement of decarbonization efforts toward
global carbon neutrality.
During the two-day meeting, leading figures in energy and
environment from around the world, including Mr. Suman Bery,
Vice Chairman of the Policy Commission of the Republic of
India, Mr. Jean-Eric Paquet, Ambassador of the Delegation of
the European Union to Japan, and Mr. Hwang Joo-ho, former CEO
of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Company, participated in 12
sessions.
Based on the series of discussions, the ICEF Steering
Committee released a statement and published a roadmap
(Sustainable Data Centers), which proposes key innovative
technologies and approaches that will contribute to achieving
carbon neutrality both in the short and long term.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Based on the result of ICEF 2025, through ICEF in the future,
we will further strengthen our networks and collaboration with
leaders from governments, industry, and academia around the
world, and strive to promote innovation in climate change .
