2022.03.16 Call for 20 Young Architects to Design 20 Facilities Sites Including Rest Areas and Toilets at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association) is seeking 20 young architects to apply to design a total of 20 facilities at the site of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”) including rest areas, exhibition facilities, galleries, pop-up stages, satellite studios, and toilets.
The aim is to have promising young architects submit ambitious and bold proposals that will lead to the achievement of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) in line with the venue design concept of “united in diversity,” and to create unique and attractive facilities at the Expo.
Experts in various fields of architecture and design will be appointed as members of the evaluation committee to review this call for applications.

Outline of the Public Call for Applications
〇 Name
 Design work for rest areas and other facilities at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan

〇 Basic design and implementation work for a total of 20 facilities (one person, one facility) at the site of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, including rest areas, exhibition facilities, ‘galleries’, pop-up stages, satellite studios, and toilets.
 ● Rest areas (4 buildings)
  Rest areas for visitors to take a break.
 ● Exhibition facilities (1 building, but may be divided into separate buildings)
  A facility with exhibition and event functions where visitors can experience future lifestyles and actions, as well as management functions for venue operation.
 ● Gallery (1 building)
  Exhibition facilities for temporary exhibitions
 ● Pop-up stage (4 buildings)
  Outdoor stages for events
 ● Satellite studio (2 buildings)
  Broadcast studios for broadcasting stations
 ● Toilets (8 buildings)
  Toilets for visitors

〇 Schedule
 Wednesday, 16 March 2022 – Applications open
 Wednesday, 13 April 2022-  Deadline for submission of application documents
 Friday, 3 June 2022 – Deadline for submission of first screening documents
 Mid-June 2022 – First screening (documentary examination)
 Early July 2022 – Secondary screening (hearing and evaluation committee)
 Late July 2022 – Announcement of screening results and conclusion of contracts

〇 Eligibility
 Young architects who are eligible to apply must have been born on or after 1 January 1980 and must have established a first-class architect office and be qualified as a first-class architect in accordance with the Act on Architects and Building Engineers
