The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition has announced that the design and the issuance schedule of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan special edition license plates have been decided.
Through its distribution throughout Japan, these special edition license plates are intended to make many people feel closer to and to foster momentum for the Expo. The plates will be issued to applicants nationwide for a limited time from autumn 2022 to 2025.
The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition requested the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to issue the license plate in order to build momentum for the Expo, and proposed a design with the motif of the shape of the official logo mark. This led to the realization of the issuance upon the ministry’s decision.
In the future, in order to increase momentum, the Association will encourage more people to apply for and use the license plates, promoting them through various opportunities such as events and gatherings.
■Advance application and commencement of distribution (planned)
・Pre-registration: Around the end of September 2022
・Starting date of distribution: Around the end of October 2022 (Details will be announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism within August 2022)
■Applicable Vehicles
・ Drivers may change to a special edition license plate not only when purchasing a new or used car, but also for the car they currently have, without changing the existing plate number.
■Cost
・The cost will be announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism around the end of September 2022.

・Rugby World Cup Special Edition License Plate: 7,080 yen ~ 9,200 yen (no donation)
・Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games Special Edition License Plate: 7,300 yen~9,500 yen (no donation)
■Support for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan through donations
・ If you donate 1,000 yen or more, you can choose the full-color version.
This donation will be used to enhance transportation services related to the Expo.
■Keeping the license plate as a commemorative souvenir
・If you wish, you can keep the special edition license plate as a commemorative souvenir after you have finished using it, with a hole drilled in the plate in order to prevent unauthorized use.
