About the Association

Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition was established in January 2019 in collaboration with the national and local governments and the business community. In November 2018, it was decided at the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), that the World Expo 2025 will take place in Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Ensuring the success of this Exposition will require collective global wisdom and the whole of Japan to unite for preparations. The Association will prepare and manage the main Expo event, and through the success of this Expo, aims to contribute to the achievement of the UN’s proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as growth of Japan’s industry and culture.

A World Expo will be held in Japan in 2025. The theme of this Expo is Designing Future Society for Our Lives.
What is happiness? What is our reason for living? This will be a co-creative style of world expo where everyone will offer ideas to consider the way individuals want to live, and how we can jointly create a society to achieve this.

At present, the public and private sectors in Japan are jointly engaged in a national project titled Society 5.0. This is a future society that leverages innovative technology such as AI and robots to overcome the diverse problems faced by mankind and enable individuals to fulfil their potential. Initiatives towards achieving this society are reflected in the very theme of this world expo, Designing Future Society for Our Lives, and will also contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations.

All associated with this endeavour, from national and local governments and the business community are united in our efforts to ensure that this expo will gather wisdom from throughout Japan and communicate the shape of a new future society to the world, as well as further enhance Japan’s charm. We look forward to your understanding and support as we work to make the Japan World Expo a success.
