On November 10, 2023, NTT Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony at the construction site in Yumeshima where the Pavilion for Private Sectors, “NTT Pavilion ’Natural’ (tentative name)” is planned to be built for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
Representatives of NTT Corporation, related parties of construction and operation, as well as the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) attended the ceremony.
The construction of the pavilion is scheduled to begin in November 2023 and be completed by the end of December 2024
Architectural plan and design concept for NTT Pavilion “Natural” (tentative name): “Architecture with Emotions”
The pavilion is covered loosely and gently with floating “cloth”. The site has open spaces between the buildings, and provides sense of openness to pavilion visitors, and the soft “cloth” gently welcomes and envelops all those who visit.
The “cloth” will move in response to the emotions and behavior of visitors—both real and virtual—using NTT’s technology, and will continue to change with the movement of nature, including wind, light, time, and the changing seasons, so that during the six-month Expo period, the entire building will change expressions like a living organism with emotions and express roaring patterns.
After the Expo, we aim to create an architecture that expresses a “Natural” world, with the hope that the cloth, with its cyclical nature that creates new value, will remain in people’s memories for a long time to come.
