The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) will begin accepting applications on Thursday, December 7, 2023, for business operators that will plan, design, construct, establish as well as open and operate the Futuristic Challenge Shops (food, beverage and product sales) at the site of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”).
Futuristic Challenge Shops are business stores open to a wide variety of companies and organizations, regardless of size or type of business. As part of the Future Society Showcase Projects, the shop also aims to provide visitors with hands-on experiences of new technologies, social systems, lifestyles, etc. related to food, beverages, product sales, and services.
※ The Future Society Showcase Projects are projects that aim to realize a part of the future society by using the Expo site as a showcase for the future society and incorporating advanced technologies and systems.

・A wide variety of stores, regardless of the size or type of business of the participating companies and organizations
・Challenges for new technologies, new business models, and new menus that enable people to experience and feel the “food” and “life” of the future
・Sustainable initiatives that take into account food loss and resource recycling to achieve the SDGs
・Utilize and sell food products and goods using sustainable, domestic ingredients
・Well-being initiatives that promote health and well-being
・Smooth store operations through the introduction of cutting-edge operational technologies, etc.
・Announcement of application guidelines and the acceptance of inquiries and applications start: Thursday, December 7, 2023
・Deadline for accepting inquiries : 5 pm, Thursday, December 14, 2023
・Deadline for accepting applications: 5 pm, Monday, December 25, 2023
・Decision on operators: Mid-February, 2024
・Conclusion of contracts: Early February, 2024
The Association will designate one of the three to four plots (each plot will be 250 to 300 m2) in the area located northwest of the Forest of Tranquility (within the red frame in the figure below, a site area of approximately 1,500 m2). Please note that the area of one plot may be adjusted or another area plot may be designated, based on a comprehensive judgment of the application situation, screening results, and other factors.
