Under the concept of a People’s Living Lab; a laboratory for a future society, the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) will use Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as the “Expo”) as a demonstration site to promote data utilisation initiatives that balance the protection and use of data, with the aim of giving the know-how it has gained back to society.

The Association has set up a Data Utilisation Expert Committee to discuss specific measures for promoting data utilisation initiatives and has established the Data Utilisation Guidelines after discussions with experts. In addition, the ‘Data Utilisation Communication Website’ has been set up to disseminate data utilisation initiatives.

■　Overview of the data utilisation communication website
　　This website will provide an overview of the data utilisation initiatives being implemented at the Expo, as well as introduce the five principles of data utilisation set out in the Data Utilisation Guidelines, called “TRUST,” and related measures.

As a representative measure related to the five principles of TRUST, the sharing of user-related data is based on the consent and choice of the user. To increase the transparency of the initiative, an assessment of the value of the services provided and privacy considerations (VPIA:  Value and Privacy Impact Assessment) will be conducted. The results of the VPIA will be published on the website in the future as reference information for the use of the relevant services.
