2024.10.15 Joining Ceremony Held for Guest Service Attendants Who Will Provide Hospitality to Visitors

On 15 October 2024, the Guest Service Attendants, (the staff responsible for providing hospitality to visitors at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”)), gathered for the first time for a joining ceremony.

During the ceremony, it was also announced that the name of the staff, previously referred to as, will be changed from ‘EXPO Service Crew (tentative name)’ to ‘Guest Service Attendants’. Education and training , including basic training, specialised training, and on-site training, will be conducted in the future in preparation for the opening of the Expo next April.

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”)has commissioned the Joint Enterprise of TSP TAIYO Inc. and TOPPAN Inc. with the task of formulating a visitor service implementation plan and implementing and operating the service, in order to realise the hospitality appropriate for the Expo. This ceremony was organised and conducted by TSP TAIYO Inc.

Joining Ceremony

Around 1,000 prospective employees  gathered for the first time from all over the country for the Joining Ceremony. Eight Guest Service Attendants took to the stage to receive their letters of appointment as representatives of the prospective employees, and shared their thoughts on the event, saying that they were looking forward to meeting the many visitors from home and abroad.

As a surprise guest, MYAKU-MYAKU, the official character of the Expo, appeared holding the flag of The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition which it handed over to a representative of the Guest Service Attendants in a “Flag Handover” ceremony.

About the Guest Service Attendants

Guest Service Attendants are staff responsible for providing hospitality to visitors to the Expo. They are responsible for the entire Expo site and are involved in a variety of tasks such as manning information desks, the Lost and Found Centre, Lost Child Centre, Baby Centre, assisting the Management Office, entrances, and patrolling the site.

Recruitment was held from April to the end of June 2024, and 16,828 applicants from Japan and abroad applied for the more than 600 positions available, with an application ratio of more than 28:1. Approximately 1,000 candidates were selected as prospective employees.
