During Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”), congestion is expected between Expo-related traffic and general traffic such as commuters and logistics. In December 2023, the Traffic Facilitation Promotion Conference for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan was established to facilitate the smooth flow of both this traffic and urban activities. The Conference has been discussing TDM* initiatives to encourage wide cooperation from residents and businesses, such as working from home, staggered working hours, and detouring around areas where congestion is forecasted.

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) is pleased to announce that the Expo TDM trial, which was conducted from Monday, 30 September to Friday, 4 October 2024, was verified to be effective in reducing traffic volume by a certain degree. The results of the trial were reported at the 4th Traffic Facilitation Promotion Conference for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan held on Monday 23 December 2024.

Further TDM initiatives are necessary to ensure smooth transport during the Expo, so the Association will continue to work with the Osaka Prefectural Government, Osaka City Government, and economic organisations to promote the registration of companies as Expo TDM partners and to publicise and inform citizens to encourage their cooperation.
