A Land of Hope and Renewal Embraced by Mangroves

Located in the western part of West Africa on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, Sierra Leone borders
Guinea to the north and Liberia to the southeast.
The border area with Guinea is mountainous and divided into dry and rainy seasons, while the coastal
region is a hot and humid tropical rainforest climate covered in mangrove forests.
Sierra Leone has abundant mineral resources, chiefly diamonds as well as gold, iron ore, and bauxite.
This is Sierra Leone’s main industry along with agriculture focused on cacao and coffee.
The country’s ongoing civil war around its abundant diamond resources has been portrayed in great detail
in the film Blood Diamond.
