Programme details
We will present what "human rights due diligence" is, concrete corporate activities for "business and human rights," and proposals for realizing a sustainable society based on the impact they bring. We will hold a "Business and Human Rights Symposium" that incorporates the theme of EXPO2025, "Designing a Future Society for Life," and aims to realize the highly compatible corporate message of the Japan Association of Social Security Attorney, "Realizing a Society that Values People."

Report on the Symposium on Business and Human Rights
(Osaka-Kansai Expo Theme Week Connect Project)
Overview
In order to widely communicate the role of Labor and Social
Security Attorneys (Sharoushi) to society, we took full
advantage of the Expo as a place of learning and co-creation
for the future. We invited distinguished speakers, including
Professor Kenta Goto (Faculty of Economics, Kansai
University), Professor Mika Yamana (Faculty of Law, Kansai
University), and corporate case presenters from Miki House
Co., Ltd. and Toa Seikei Co., Ltd. A keynote lecture and a
panel discussion were held.
On the day of the event, 199 participants attended on-site, in
addition to approximately 25 board members and staff, and more
than 80 participants joined remotely.
We consider this symposium as an opportunity to realize the
Expo’s theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” and to
contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. It also served as a
platform to disseminate the core messages of our Association:
“Building companies that value people” and “Realizing a
society that values people.”
Significance
This year marked the beginning of the “JASTI Audit by
Sharoushi” system, with the support of the ILO. Through our
professional services, Labor and Social Security Attorneys are
committed to providing Decent Work for all, and to supporting
the collaboration of companies, workers, consumers, and all
stakeholders toward the creation of a sustainable society.
The symposium successfully highlighted the importance of
“Business and Human Rights” as an essential element of
corporate management.
Achievements and Feedback
According to post-event questionnaires, 100% of participants
responded “satisfied” or “mostly satisfied.” The depth of
expertise shared by the invited speakers and the initiatives
presented by the Association allowed us to present concrete
and practical approaches to global issues.
The symposium thus proved to be a meaningful event that
enhanced understanding of Business and Human Rights, while
also raising the visibility of the Sharoushi profession.
Reflections
Strengths (Observations):
Demonstrated to society that Sharoushi are taking a proactive
role in addressing Business and Human Rights.
Created a co-creative platform together with international
organizations, academia, and the private sector.
Successfully linked the Expo theme with our Association’s
corporate message.
Impact (Effects):
Participants gained new awareness of the activities of
Sharoushi.
Strengthened collaboration opportunities with enterprises,
universities, and international organizations.
Provided groundwork for expanding our involvement in
BHR-related audits, consulting, and training.
Challenges (Points for Improvement):Operational aspects such
as venue management, remote participation, and time allocation
for discussion could be further refined.
The participant profile was somewhat skewed toward corporate
representatives; more engagement with students and younger
audiences would be beneficial.
We need to further connect BHR with practical areas of labor
management, occupational safety and health, and social
security in future events.
Future Outlook
Strengthen ongoing partnerships with the ILO, enterprises, and
academia to promote the role of Sharoushi in Business and
Human Rights.
Carry forward the achievements of this symposium beyond the
Expo, embedding them in our training and consultation
activities.
Advance the professional role of Sharoushi in supporting
corporate Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) and labor
audits.
Would you like me to make this formal report style (more
concise, suitable for official minutes),or keep it in this
narrative/reflective style (emphasizing insights and lessons
learned) for the Expo Committee?
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
As part of our ongoing engagement following the “Business and
Human Rights” Theme Week at EXPO, the Japan Federation of
Labor and Social Security Attorneys (Sharoushi Association)
reaffirms its commitment to advancing a society that values
people, grounded in the principle of Decent Work.
Through Business and Human Rights (BHR)–promoting Sharoushi,
and indeed all Sharoushi, we aim to support the dissemination
of BHR practices that are globally required, drawing on our
specialized expertise and long-standing experience in
improving labor environments and systems.
As labor and social security experts in Japan, Sharoushi
recognize that appropriate responses to “Business and Human
Rights” require awareness, knowledge, and practical
capabilities to address human rights with due consideration of
international standards.
Accordingly, with the technical cooperation of the ILO Office
for Japan, our Association provides training programs on
Business and Human Rights and has been fostering BHR-promoting
Sharoushi.
In addition, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
(METI) has established audit requirements and evaluation
criteria (JASTI) that reflect the realities of Japan’s textile
industry. From among the BHR-promoting Sharoushi, those who
have completed specific requirements and training will be
qualified as JASTI-audit Sharoushi, who are authorized to
conduct JASTI audits. While only JASTI-audit Sharoushi may
carry out such audits, the Association will widely disseminate
information on JASTI to all members, with particular emphasis
on providing detailed information and training opportunities
for BHR-promoting Sharoushi.
