Amid Japan’s declining population, there is a growing need to
build a society where all individuals can fully demonstrate
their abilities without being constrained by gender. To
realize a society in which the younger generation—who will
shape the future—can choose diverse lifestyles regardless of
gender, it is essential to focus on their awareness of gender
roles.
A recent survey revealed that among men in their 20s and 30s,
the belief that 'women should support men in the
workplace' remains deeply rooted. In contrast, a
record-high proportion of women envision a future of
employment without marriage, highlighting both a gap and a
shift in gender-related perceptions.
This session will feature expert analysis of these survey
results, offering multifaceted insights into the background
and factors influencing young people’s attitudes. The aim is
to encourage society as a whole to reconsider gender-based
role divisions and to promote future awareness-raising efforts
and initiatives.
Reports
【Reflection】
A major achievement of this program was that experts
interpreted the findings of a survey conducted by the Council
for Gender Equality Promotion and Partnership, revealing the
actual state of young people's awareness and the
challenges that emerged. Together with participants, we were
able to share the current situation and challenges facing
society in advancing gender equality. Participants ranged from
children to adults, representing a diverse group in terms of
gender and age, demonstrating the high level of interest in
the program's theme.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
A survey conducted by the Cabinet Office Gender Equality
Promotion Liaison Conference revealed persistent attitudes
among men in their 20s and 30s that “women should support men
in the workplace,” while the proportion of women anticipating
“working without marrying” reached a record high. This
highlights gaps and shifts in attitudes. In this program,
experts examined these realities, analyzing the background and
factors behind young people's attitudes from multiple
angles. This enabled diverse participants to share an
understanding of the current situation and challenges.
Furthermore, as part of the Theme Week initiative for the
Kansai/Osaka edition, these insights were widely disseminated
both internally and externally. Moving forward, building on
these outcomes, we will further accelerate efforts to promote
women's advancement in Japan. This aims to realize a
society where diverse lifestyles can be chosen regardless of
gender.
