Programme details
Kansai University has nurtured many human resources with a
strong will to respect diverse cultures, values, and human
rights and to open up a new world with the “Thinking Power”,
through its proactive response to diversity.
This event is positioned as “KU Diversity Day” and will
introduce various initiatives by Kansai University and its
partner universities, HOSEI University and Meiji University,
as well as corporations and organizations. In Part 1, the 3
universities will introduce their initiatives by presidents
and students, followed by a discussion. In Part 2, the
"Kandai Ally Group" of Kansai University will
feature a panel discussion among faculty members, students,
and people from corporations and organization.
Focusing on both “universities” as educational institutions
and “companies” as business enterprises, the event aims to
explore challenges and future directions for achieving true
diversity. Join us at this event and consider together the
challenges society faces in achieving "true
diversity".

【Reflection】
At Kansai University, we promote the development of human
resources who can pioneer the future with “creative power”
through proactive measures for diversity, based on respect for
human rights and acceptance of diverse values. As an event
that embodies this philosophy, we held “KU Diversity Day.”
This event was positioned as a platform to introduce and share
diverse initiatives in collaboration with partner
universities, companies, and organizations, fostering a day
where participants actively reflected on the true meaning of
diversity.
In the first part, a symposium was held with HOSEI University,
Meiji University, and Kansai University. After introducing
each university's diversity promotion initiatives, a
panel discussion was held with the presidents, vice
presidents, and students of the universities, where they
exchanged opinions on the true meaning of diversity, the role
that universities should play, and future prospects.
In the second part, Kansai University staff members from the
independent study group “Kansai University Ally Association”
served as facilitators, and university staff members,
companies, and organization representatives appeared as
panelists. With the perspectives of LGBTQ+ individuals and
allies, they deepened the discussion on the challenges and
possibilities of promoting understanding of diverse
sexualities and creating an inclusive environment.
After each part of the event, participants were given the
opportunity to express their thoughts on “ideal diversity”
through a message board project called “A Multivoiced Space
for Delivering Each Person's Voice.” The venue was filled
with a colorful array of diverse values and wishes, creating a
participatory space for learning and empathy.
Participants shared feedback such as, “I learned from the
initiatives of other universities and companies,” “The frank
exchange of opinions from diverse perspectives was memorable,”
and “The collaborative writing activity helped me visualize my
own thoughts.” These exchanges deepened understanding and
awareness of diversity.
Going forward, our university will continue to provide
platforms for universities, companies, and organizations to
learn from one another and strengthen collaboration, striving
to advance efforts toward the realization of a society where
everyone is respected.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Following the “KU Diversity Day” event, Kansai University has
continued to promote diversity both on and off campus.
The diverse opinions and values exchanged on the day of the
event were recognized as valuable resources that should be
utilized in future education, research, and community
outreach. In particular, during the first session, through
discussions involving the presidents, vice presidents, and
students of three universities, the event created an
opportunity for attendees to share and deeply reflect on the
fundamental question of “What is the true meaning of
diversity?” This served as an important starting point for
fostering a sense of awareness among all participants and for
further learning and practical applications beyond the event
period.
In addition, the second part of the event addressed the
challenges and possibilities of diversity in achieving a
sustainable society, providing many stakeholders with profound
insights and an opportunity to reaffirm the direction of our
university's diversity policies. Based on the insights
and challenges gained from this event, the Kansai University
staff's independent study group, “Kandai Ally Group,”
will continue to hold study sessions and exchange opinions on
new themes. By collaborating with other universities and
incorporating practical examples from outside the university,
we aim to develop more effective initiatives.
Going forward, our university will continue to focus on
creating a space for learning and action related to diversity
through ongoing dialogue, practice, and reflection after the
event, rather than allowing these efforts to end as a one-time
occurrence.
