Reports
【Reflection】
The business forum “Green Education & Skills for Society
5.0: Unlocking Indonesia Japan Youth Workforce & Business
Potential” provided a platform to explore how education,
policy, and industry can jointly shape a sustainable
future.
The program began with the Indonesian government outlining its
vision for expanding “green jobs,” followed by Green Welfare
Indonesia’s youth insight survey, which revealed the
aspirations and challenges faced by young professionals. This
was complemented by presentations from Japanese companies on
ESG initiatives, and concluded with a panel discussion
involving representatives from government, academia, and
industry.
Key reflections included the recognition that green jobs go
far beyond technical expertise in renewable energy and
environmental protection. Green skills also encompass
communication, teamwork, leadership, and adaptability which
are essential for building a resilient and inclusive green
workforce. The discussions emphasized that while technical
knowledge is crucial, human centered skills and social
awareness are equally necessary to achieve systemic change.
Another highlight was the importance of intergenerational
collaboration. Experienced professionals bring wisdom and long
term perspective, while youth contribute creativity and
innovative thinking. Together, they can co create solutions
tailored to regional contexts and accelerate the green
transition.
The forum also underscored the urgency of aligning education
systems with labor market needs, reducing regional and social
inequalities, and ensuring that sustainability is integrated
into every sector, not treated as a niche. By strengthening
Indonesia Japan cooperation, participants recognized the
potential to expand training, knowledge exchange, and joint
projects that directly support the Golden Indonesia Vision
2045.
Overall, the forum confirmed that youth are at the heart of
the green transition, and that international collaboration
between Indonesia and Japan will be vital for unlocking new
business opportunities, fostering sustainable economic growth,
and empowering the next generation to lead in Society 5.0.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Following the conclusion of the forum, Green Welfare Indonesia
has begun implementing practical initiatives to support the
development of young talent in Indonesia. Training programmes
are being designed in response to the skills needs identified
during the forum, offering opportunities to acquire specialist
knowledge in renewable energy and environmental protection, as
well as a broader set of green skills such as communication
and team coordination that are essential in professional
practice.
Particular emphasis is placed on intergenerational knowledge
transfer and addressing cultural gaps. Young people are
encouraged to participate in environmental projects that
combine the practical wisdom of older generations with the
creativity and innovation of youth, adapted to local
contexts.
These initiatives extend beyond skills acquisition to foster
socially aware talent and encourage concrete actions that
contribute to the creation of a sustainable society. The
collaboration of policy, education, and business sectors
ensures that the insights gained from the forum are translated
into long-term strategies, creating a solid foundation for
Indonesia’s transition to a green economy.
In addition, Green Welfare Indonesia published the Youth
Insight Report “Green Skills for the Planet: Youth Insight
Report 2025”, based on interviews with 42 youth and industry
professionals. The report highlights the pathways for building
a future-ready, green-literate workforce in Indonesia and
serves as a resource for policymakers, educators, and
businesses to align their strategies with youth aspirations
and market needs.
