Green EXPOFuture fuels made from Hydorogen and CO2

We aim to realize a sustainable society with earth-friendly fuels of the future.

“Synthetic fuel” produced from hydrogen and CO2 is used in some of the shuttle buses connecting Osaka Station (Umekita) and the Expo site. Some of the vehicles for guests and officials at the Expo site also run on this synthetic fuel. Visitors can see vehicles using “synthetic fuel” both inside and outside the venue.

About Synthetic Fuels

Fuel produced*1 from hydrogen derived from renewable energy sources and CO2 emitted from industrial activities is called “synthetic fuel”.

“Synthetic fuel” is an earth-friendly fuel that can reduce CO2 emissions because it is made from renewable energy and recovered CO2. It can be used directly in currently used vehicles such as cars and airplanes, as well as at gas stations.

This “synthetic fuel” is used to fuel some of our shuttle buses*2. Please take a ride and experience the energy of the future. Advance reservations and payment of bus fare is required to ride the bus. For details, please check the EXPO2025 Transportation Information page.

*1: This project is being conducted as a commissioned program of National Research and Development Agency New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) “Green Innovation Fund / Development of technology for producing fuel using CO2, etc..” (JPNP21022)
*2: Approximately half of the trips to and from the Umekita Green Place bus parking lot will run on synthetic fuel.
