2020.10.15 [Notice] Phishing emails sent overseas due to illegal access of association email account

One of the email accounts belonging to the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition illegally was accessed by an external source sometime from October 7 (Wednesday) to October 8 (Thursday), 2020 (Japan Standard Time). As a result, around 63,000 phishing emails were sent to email accounts outside of Japan.

After confirming the occurrence of this incident, we immediately changed the password and stopped transmission of the phishing emails.

As of the writing of this notice, we have not confirmed any secondary damage, including the leak of personal and other information. We requested a third-party information security body conduct a specialized inspection, including finding the series of events leading up to the illegal access. We are continuing to implement inspections to take all measures possible.
