2022.05.17 Open Call for Official Character Nickname Closed 33,197 Entries Received

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition made a public solicitation for the official character nickname of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The total number of applications during the application period was 33,197.

From this day forward, among entries posted, those that satisfy format requirements will go on to the first-round screening for originality, familiarity and other qualities. The entries that successfully pass the first screening, after the checking of its meaning in both Japanese and foreign languages, will proceed to the selection by the Nickname Selection Committee. The short-listed candidate entries will be checked whether or not they are registered as trademarks in Japan or overseas. Subsequently, following a discussion by the committee, the best nickname will be decided.
The best nickname will be announced around summer 2022.

From Tuesday, April 26 to Monday, May 16, 2022

A comment from the Association

“We truly appreciate that many people posted their ideas for the character’s nickname. Through the selection process, we will choose a fitting nickname for the official character that will be loved and become familiar to everyone from children to the elderly for a long time. Just like the official logo mark, the character will become another symbol of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.”
