The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition has started recruiting participating schools for the “Educational Program” intended to deepen understanding of the Expo and SDGs through classes at elementary and junior high schools from Wednesday, June 15. In addition, from academic year 2022, the area where classes of the program are to be held will expand to all over Japan.
This program was launched in October 2020 with the aim of raising children’s interest in and awareness of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
Under the program, children who will be responsible for the future will participate in initiatives for Expo before its opening, learn about SDGs, think of ideas for the Expo’s theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”
Since October 2020 when the program was introduced, a total of 64 schools (21 elementary schools and 43 junior high schools) from two urban prefectures and three prefectures in the Kansai area have participated.
Classes are taught by teachers from each participating school using exclusive teaching materials arranged by the Association. About 10 hours of classes such as comprehensive learning are used to deepen understanding of the Expo and SDGs. In addition, “Research Meeting,” where children interact online with companies working on SDGs, and “Junior EXPO,” that functions as a place for children to present the results they have learned through classes and other activities, will be held this fiscal year as well.
