Contents of projects

・Venue Access Boat【Smart Mobility Expo】
(Iwatani Corporation)
Hydrogen fuel cell ships navigating on a hybrid of hydrogen and electricity will provide a smarter, cleaner means of transportation for visitors to the Expo site via the sea. Iwatani Corporation has begun development of a hydrogen fuel cell boat in 2019. In fiscal year 2021, the project was adopted as the one subsidized by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and the development of hydrogen fuel cell boats has been promoted with the cooperation of The Kansai Electric Power Company, Incorporated, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.; Development Bank of Japan, Osaka Aqua Bus Ltd., and others. The Expo will position the boat as a “moving pavilion,” transforming transportation to and from the Expo site into a special experience and serving as a base for communicating the appeal of hydrogen energy to the world.

・All Photonics Network【Digital Expo】
(NIPPON TELEGRAPH AND TELEPHONE CORPORATION)
NTT’s IOWN all-photonics network, which combines low power consumption, high quality, large capacity, and low latency transmission, will be used to connect major facilities such as pavilions and event facilities within the Yumeshima site, providing a demonstration environment that enables the sharing of various content and events within the Expo site and an immersive experience without feeling distant. The NTT Group will further evolve its telecommunication services with the experience and technological capabilities it has cultivated to date, and bring the experience of a future society to life at the Expo.

・Wireless LAN environment and roaming infrastructure 【Digital Expo】
(Cisco Systems G.K.)
The “Wireless LAN Environment and Roaming Infrastructure” will provide a wireless LAN environment (Wi-Fi) compatible with the roaming infrastructure (OpenRoaming) that can be used at major facilities within the Expo site, using access points and controllers manufactured by Cisco Systems G.K. OpenRoaming is a system which provides safe and private guest access that is authenticated and encrypted, and once authenticated, Wi-Fi can be used seamlessly and safely even on different SSIDs. Cisco Systems G.K.’s know-how and technology will be utilized to create a secure and convenient communication environment for visitors at the Expo.

・EXPO VISION【Digital Expo】
(Advertising NAGATA Co., Ltd.)
At the Expo, where the world’s most advanced wisdom is gathered, we will connect messages from young creators who will lead the next generation and various innovations from Japan to the world through “EXPO VISION”. “EXPO VISION” has centripetal force and the power of communication. By looking to the future and providing a world-class venue for transmitting digital content culture, we aim to realize the entertainment of the future to trigger various insights, encounters, and innovations, which in turn will lead to the happiness of Expo participants around the world.

・DAC【Green Expo】
(Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth)
This project is designed to capture and store atmospheric carbon dioxide, which is considered the largest cause of global warming, directly within the Expo site. Direct capture of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere allows carbon dioxide to be captured in the vicinity of the reservoir, regardless of the source of the carbon dioxide emissions. In addition, by storing carbon dioxide recovered from the atmosphere in the ground, negative emissions can be achieved, which is expected to make a significant contribution to the prevention of global warming. The DAC technology development to be implemented in this project is being carried out as a commissioned project of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) under the Moonshot R&D Program.
※Direct Air Capture (DAC) is a technology for separating and capturing low concentrations of CO₂ in the air.

・CO₂ recovery equipment【Green Expo】
(AIR WATER INC.)
This is a demonstration project to recover carbon dioxide emitted from heat supply facilities installed in the Expo site and use the recovered carbon dioxide to produce dry ice, etc. Efficient separation and recovery of low-purity carbon dioxide, including combustion exhaust gas from general factories, is expected to promote the widespread use of carbon dioxide recovery and utilization, thereby making a significant contribution to the prevention of global warming. This project is subsidized by the Green Innovation Fund of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).

・Methanation【Green Expo】
(Osaka Gas Co., Ltd.)
This is a demonstration project to synthesize methane, the main component of city gas, from carbon dioxide in biogas derived from food waste generated at the Expo site, carbon dioxide collected by DACCS and CO2 recovery equipment at the Expo site, and hydrogen derived from renewable energy. Synthetic methane as a substitute for natural gas contributes to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, and since existing infrastructure can be used without modification, it is expected to be implemented in society at an early date. This project will be implemented as a model building and demonstration project of the Ministry of the Environment for low-cost hydrogen supply utilizing the existing infrastructure.

・Next generation solar cells【Green Expo】
(SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD.)
This is a demonstration project to install film-type perovskite solar cells, which are the next generation of solar cells, in the Expo site and utilize them as electricity for lighting in the area. Film-type perovskite solar cells are lightweight and flexible, and can be installed on low-load-bearing roofs, building exterior walls, curved surfaces, and other locations where conventional solar cells are difficult to install. This is expected to make a significant contribution to the expansion of renewable energy and the realization of carbon neutrality.

・Energy management systems【Green Expo】
(KINDEN CORPORATION, MUTRON,inc.)
This is a demonstration project for energy management that achieves both comfort and energy conservation at each pavilion and other facilities in the Expo site by using data obtained from temperature, humidity, human flow, and various sensors in the Expo site, and controlling air conditioning by utilizing AI.

・Hydrogen Supply Chain Model【Green Expo】
(NTT Anode Energy Corporation, Panasonic Holdings Corporation)
Hydrogen is expected to be used as a clean energy source in the future to realize a sustainable society. The NTT Pavilion will generate “green hydrogen” derived from renewable energy on-site [Create/Store], and supply it to the Panasonic Group Pavilion via pipeline transportation using underground telecommunication pipelines [Carry]. Both pavilions will then use the electricity generated by pure hydrogen fuel cells based on this green hydrogen [Use]. With sponsorship from the NTT Group and Panasonic Group, we will promote the spread of renewable energy and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society through the establishment of an on-site hydrogen supply chain at the Expo site.

・Forest of Tranquility (Provision of trees)【Green Expo】
(KURODA AFFORESTATION PROMOTION CORPORATION DONATION)
The “Forest of Tranquility” is planned for the central part of the Expo site, in contrast to the Expo site, where the latest technologies and cultural traditions from around the world are gathered and people from all over the world are filled with anticipation and bustle. This “Forest of Tranquility” will be a space that embodies the theme of the Expo by welcoming “life” in the form of trees, plants and flowers. KURODA AFFORESTATION PROMOTION CORPORATION DONATION, which is engaged in greening projects in Osaka Prefecture and sympathizes with the concept of “Forest of Tranquility,” will select trees that will become the symbol of the “Forest of Tranquility” and sponsor tree planting at the site. In addition to providing a comfortable place for visitors to relax, it will be a symbolic space where nature and people coexist in harmony, presenting an environmentally conscious vision of the future.

(For reference) About the Future Society Showcase Projects

This project is a general term referring to a group of projects that provide experiences to a wide range of participants and visitors from Japan and abroad by utilizing technologies and services that support the theme of the Expo, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” for the development, operation, exhibition, and events of the Expo site which will be a “People’s Living Lab”, in the form of “demonstration” that gives a sense of the future after 2025 and “implementation” that is suitable for the Expo.
