2023.12.07 First Round of Calls for Applications for Business Operators That Will Operate Sales Facilities at the Site of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan Begins on December 7

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) will begin accepting applications on December 7, 2023, for business operators that operate product sales, food and beverage facilities at the site of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”).
The Expo site will feature 63 food and beverage stores and 21 retail stores. The first round of calls for applications will be accepted for 8 food and beverage stores, including lounges and dining rooms offering high-quality food and service, futuristic conceptual restaurants, and cafes, as well as 9 merchandise stores offering a selection of regional products appropriate for Japan and the Expo.
Applications for on-site sales facilities will be accepted in phases beginning December 7. Business operators that operate in a wide variety of industries, business categories, and with a wide variety of stores that can cater to the needs of various visitors are widely invited to apply. 

Application details

・Food and Beverage Business Participants
We are looking for business operators to operate food and beverage stores that will provide hospitality to distinguished visitors from around the world and that will serve as symbols that embody the concept and theme of the Expo.

・Merchandise Store Business Participants
We are soliciting business operators to operate local product stores with a selection of Japanese national and regional products appropriate for the Expo.

・Initiatives to fully meet visitors’ dining and shopping needs
・Sustainable initiatives that take into account food loss and resource recycling to achieve the SDGs
・Utilize and sell food products and goods using domestic ingredients with consideration for sustainability
・Well-being initiatives that promote health and well-being
・Taking on challenges with new technologies, new business models, and new menus
・Smooth store operations through the introduction of cutting-edge operational technologies, etc.

First round application schedule (tentative)

・Announcement of application guidelines and the acceptance of inquiries and applications start: Thursday, December 7, 2023
・Deadline for accepting inquiries : 5 pm, Tuesday, December 19, 2023
・Deadline for accepting applications: 5 pm, Thursday, January 25, 2024
・Decision on operators: Mid-February, 2024
・Conclusion of contracts: Early February, 2024
