2024.04.01 Results of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan Volunteer Questionnaire and Request for Applications

(Note: Applications closed on 30 April 2024)

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition is accepting applications for volunteers for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “volunteers”). As of 29 March 2024, the number of applicants exceeded 10,000, reaching 12,890.

To make volunteering more accessible to those who are considering applying, the Association conducted a survey of past applicants regarding their reasons for applying. The results of the survey are presented below in the hope that they will serve as an incentive to apply.

The Association is looking forward to receiving applications from anyone interested in volunteering, who wants to be involved in the Expo and can volunteer for three to six hours per day for five days or more during the six-month Expo period. Reasons for applying could include those such as “I want to make use of my volunteer experience in the future,” “I want to help people,” “I want to create memories,” “I want to interact with people from other countries and make use of my language skills,” and so on. The application period for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”) volunteer positions ends on Tuesday, 30 April 2024. We have received enquiries about the dates of the pre-registration interviews and post-registration training schedule for volunteers. We plan to allow applicants to choose the dates that work for them.

■ The number one reason for applying was “Because I want to be involved in the Expo” The appeal of the Expo is that anyone can be involved in the Expo!

Of the applicants’ reasons for applying, the most common reason, at over 40%, was “Because I want to be involved in the Expo,” indicating that many people with an interest in the Expo are applying. (Table 1) We believe that one of the most appealing things about the Expo is that it is easy to get involved in.

While “because I want to be involved in the Expo” was the most common reason for all generations, a comparison of other reasons by generation revealed differences in motivations and interests between generations. Many people in their 30s and 40s wanted to make memories through volunteering. Many of those in their 50s and 60s volunteered because they wanted to give to others, such as by helping them or conveying the good qualities of Osaka and Japan. (Table 2)
