The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) has established the “Code of Sustainable Procurement (Third edition),” which sets out standards and operational methods to realise sustainability considerations in the procurement process of goods and services, aiming to ensure the sustainable operation of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”).
The Code of Sustainable Procurement (Third edition) was established to reduce the risks associated with the environmental, social, and economic impacts of the Expo, as well as to ensure that similar initiatives spread throughout the world and leave a legacy in the fields of environment, society, and economy. The first edition was released in June 2022 and the second edition in July 2023.
In response to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, the Expert Committee for the Sustainable Expo and the Sustainable Procurement Working Group have discussed revisions and other issues. The revised code is now published as the Code of Sustainable Procurement (Third edition).
The Association will continue to work with various stakeholders, including businesses involved in the provision, sale, and manufacture of goods and services, along with all organisations involved in the operation of pavilions, to ensure that procurement of goods and services is carried out in accordance with the Code of Sustainable Procurement.
