Green EXPODirect Air Capture(DAC)

Future Forest

“Future Forest” – removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere like a forest.

DAC is a technology that directly captures CO2 from the atmosphere, just like a natural forest.
This facility is located in the Carbon Recycle Factory in a controlled area.

Here, visitors can see the DAC plant, which is currently conducting demonstration tests. They can also enjoy learning about the latest environmental technologies through 3D videos and displays in the guidance hall.

DAC

The problem of global warming is caused by the increasing concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. While efforts have been made to reduce CO2 emissions, DAC is a technology that directly captures CO2 that has already been emitted into the atmosphere. This innovate technology is attracting attention worldwide for its potential in combating global warming.
The atmosphere currently contains about 0.04% CO2. Demonstration experiments are being conducted at the Expo site to efficiently capture this small amount of CO2.

Guidance hall, Exhibition area

The Guidance Hall was built using a single large CLT (cross-laminated timber) panel in a folded structure reminiscent of origami, with the aim of creating a wooden building befitting DAC, the forest of the future.
Visitors can experience the latest environmental technologies through easy-to-understand explanations using 3D video in the Guidance Hall and various exhibits such as CCS technology.

DAC research and development is carried out as a commissioned project of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)’s Moonshot Research and Development Program.
