In light of the fire incident that occurred in a toilet in the Green World (GW) construction zone on 28 March 2024 and other incidents, the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) has consulted with experts to compile safety measures for methane gas and other substances during the period of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”) and published them on 24 June.
As part of the efforts to provide information to visitors and others, the results of gas concentration measurements during the construction of the venue are to be published on a regular basis. The results of gas concentration measurements for June 2024 have now been compiled.
On 24 June, an overview of the ‘methane gas and other gases detected’ before May 2024 was published. Detailed concentration measurement data will also be published.
Regarding safety measures during construction and during the Expo, as already announced, in the GW construction zone, gas concentrations are measured before all work is carried out, and if concentrations are found to be above the standard values, mechanical ventilation is provided by fans, etc., and work is only started after it is confirmed that concentrations are below the standard values. Measures will also be taken during the Expo to ensure the safety of visitors and others by preventing gas ingress, appropriate ventilation of any ingress gases, continuous measurement of gas concentrations, and early detection of any gas build-up.
