The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) is pleased to announce the details of the “Individual Exhibitions” that will be implemented by the 12 sponsors for the pavilion of the Future Life Expo: “Future City” (hereinafter referred to as “Future City”). Together with the “Common Exhibitions”, which is led by the Association, a total of 15 future experience attractions will be presented to the public.
“Future City” is a joint exhibition project by the Association and 12 sponsoring companies and organisations, transcending the boundaries of organisations, companies and industries by utilising their respective knowledge and technological capabilities under the theme “To the city of happiness”, to envision the future cities of Society 5.0 where economic advancement is balanced with the resolution of various social problems.
The “Future City” pavilion is located on the waterfront on the western side of the Expo site. With a facility area of approximately 4,800 m2 (approximately 150 m long and 33 m wide) and an exhibition area of approximately 3,300 m2, it is one of the largest pavilions at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”).
The theme of the pavilion’s exhibition is “To the city of happiness.” One of the draws is the “15 future experience attractions”, which are co-created by the Association and the 12 sponsors. In this instalment, we will introduce the 12 individual exhibitors in five fields: “Society 5.0 and the Future City”, “Environment and Energy”, “Transportation and Mobility”, “Manufacturing and Urban Development”, and “Food and Agriculture”.
Field: Society 5.0 and the Future City
Sponsors: Hitachi, Ltd., and KDDI Corporation
We will present the “Future City” from the perspective of people’s daily lives and introduce initiatives for citizen participation experiences towards the creation of Society 5.0.
〇Hitachi, Ltd., and KDDI Corporation
Based on the concept “We can change the future ourselves”; the exhibition allows visitors to select their own solutions to future problems and experience how “Future City” will change. The theatre-style facility, which can accommodate 120 visitors at once, offers an interactive experience of creating the “Future City” using of smart devices. Visitors can experience a “cyber-physical system” with advanced IT systems to link cyberspace and physical space and solve social issues through simulation.
Visitors receive SOS on familiar themes from children living in the future in 2035. Together with a navigator, they all think and choose a solution, while gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges and options of the future in a fun way. A similar experience is planned to be built on the Metaverse so that it can be experienced from outside of the site of the Expo.
Field: Environment and Energy
Sponsors: Niterra Co., Ltd., Hitachi Zosen Corporation, and IHI Corporation
By creating various cycles, we are creating new bounties of energy. This section introduces evolving initiatives for a sustainable planet.
〇Niterra Co., Ltd.
The approach to a shining future proposed by Niterra Co., Ltd. is “autonomous portable circulation technology” that delivers resource energy anywhere and to anyone. At the venue, navigators will introduce the “CyclusNiterrium” water and air circulation system. In addition, virtual venues allow you to venture into a future where life forms inhabited by circulating technology are active.
〇Hitachi Zosen Corporation
We aim for a “happy future” for people and the planet. “The world tree” is placed at the centre as a symbol to connect and fuse the present and future, cyber, and physical, people, earth, and technology. Visitors can experience four stories about creating a prosperous future through resource recycling at the experience device (E-motion device) installed at the world tree.
〇IHI Corporation
Our vision of the future is a world where nature and technology work in unity. In the exhibition, visitors can experience a thrilling immersive film ride on the “Wonder Cube” through the ocean, through space and into the micro-world. Take a journey into a future where the cycle of water, the source of the earth and life, and the cycle of clean energy, the source of abundance in the future, will continue.
Field: Transportation and Mobility
Sponsors: Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., Mitsui O.S.K. Lins, Ltd., and Kansai Transmission and Distribution, Inc.
In this field, we will show how new values, such as environmental contributions, are created and overlap in the mobility scene, rather than people and goods simply moving from one place to another.
〇Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.
It is in humans’ DNA to feel happy through movement. The Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group has embodied sustainable mobility that moves people, things, and minds, unleashing “移動本能” *. Personal mobility for greater freedom of movement and mass mobility for greater comfort across land, sea, and air will be presented in full scale.
*”移動本能”= IDO HONNO = Movement Instinct
〇Mitsui O.S.K. Lins, Ltd.
It presents the potential of boats in a future society to capture and utilise the ultimate natural energy source – wind. The interactive presentation of the “WIND HUNTER”, a next-generation ship that creates, stores, and transports green hydrogen from offshore wind, will allow visitors to experience the “wind” movement generated by the ship through a variety of visuals.
〇Kansai Transmission and Distribution, Inc.
The exhibition will showcase the “SMART POLE”, which is expected to be applied to mobility, disaster prevention, and tourism as a platform that contributes to solving problems in local communities. Smart poles for power generation, AI cameras, etc. will be demonstrated in the vicinity of “Future City” buildings, while the exhibition area will feature cyber-physical fusion exhibits, such as generating your own character in augmented reality (AR).
Field: Manufacturing and Urban Development
Sponsors: Kobe Steel, Ltd., Asunaro Aoki Construction Co., Ltd., + Komatsu Ltd. CP Concrete Consortium
In this field, we will introduce initiatives to face social issues through wisdom, such as CO2 reduction, resource recycling, and disaster countermeasures, and to achieve a symbiotic relationship with nature.
〇Kobe Steel, Ltd.
Manufacturing is the foundation for creating future wealth. Kobelco Group’s exhibition will represent manufacturing that changes, connects, multiplies, and evolves in three zones. Visitors can experience an exhibition that appeals to their impact and imagination, where they can experience the future and possibilities of manufacturing by touring three zones with different themes.
〇Asunaro Aoki Construction Co., Ltd. + Komatsu Ltd.
The exhibition by Asunaro Aoki Construction Co., Ltd. and Komatsu Ltd. introduces “Underwater Construction of the Future”, in which the amphibious bulldozer, created the year after the Japan World Exposition Osaka 1970, has transcended the ages to become an underwater construction robot. The venue will welcome you with an exhibition full of realism and excitement, including a main screen, a huge model of the concept machine and a 3D display to create an extraordinary underwater experience.
〇CP Concrete Consortium
The CP Concrete Consortium is developing a next-generation concrete that will continue to absorb CO2 during manufacture and after construction. Visitors can glide aboard an airship through a future where we have overcome the global warming crisis and a future where global warming has advanced, and experience how CP concrete is the key to saving the planet.
Field: Food and Agriculture
Sponsor: Kubota Corporation
This section introduces how the food value chain, which links producers, sellers and eaters, protects and distributes the source of life.
〇Kubota Corporation
Agriculture has evolved with humankind and has been a source of life. For the future, we need to be kind to the planet and deliver happy food all over the world. Visitors will be able to experience “planetary conscious Food and Agriculture that is friendly to the earth and people and leads to the future” through not only technology sustaining food and agriculture, but also video production and games using the entire space.
