2024.10.03 Meitetsu Department Store, Nagoya’s Nana-chan Dressed in Venue Service Attendant Staff Uniform to Promote Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan!

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) has dressed Nana-chan in the venue service attendant staff uniforms of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”) from Wednesday 2 to Tuesday 15 October, to mark six months to go to the opening of the Expo.

Nana-chan is a giant doll in front of Meitetsu Department Store’s flagship store in Nagoya. She is loved as the face of Nagoya Station and used by many people as a meeting point.
An event was held on 2 October to celebrate the unveiling and featured the official character of the Expo MYAKU-MYAKU, as well as HATTORI Mariko, the designer of the venue service attendant staff uniforms, and YAMADA Tomiyo, known as ‘Expo Grandma’, who lives in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture. They spoke about their thoughts on the Expo and its attractions.

I am delighted to be involved in the designing the uniforms for such a special place that exudes a spectacular future. I hope that the people wearing the uniforms will enjoy and be proud of their work, and that visitors will feel an even greater sense of excitement when they see the uniforms.
Comment from YAMADA Tomiyo:
I think there are many hints for the future at the Expo. The Expo is a ‘world’ where you don’t need a passport, so you can feel the atmosphere and uniqueness of other countries, which I think is the greatest strength of the Expo.

■ YAMADA Tomiyo
Date of birth: 12 April, 1949
Birthplace: Ishikawa
History : YAMADA attended the 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan all 185 days from 25 March to 25 September 2005, achieving perfect attendance. She also visited Expo 2010 Shanghai China all 184 days from 1 May 2010, the opening day, to 31 October, 2010, the last day of the Expo, and became very popular there under the nickname ‘Expo Grandma.

On 30 November 2023, she and MYAKU-MYAKU participated in the event 500 days before the opening of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (Nagoya venue) to promote the attractions of the Expo.
