■ Project Overview
・Automatic Translation System
The advanced automatic translation system (consecutive translation and automatic simultaneous interpretation) will facilitate communication across language barriers for everything from pre-Expo events to the provision of information and services during the Expo. By demonstrating an automatic translation system in various situations, such as responding to enquiries from foreign visitors using a smartphone app, simultaneous interpretation at seminars and other events held at the Expo site, multilingual communication at the virtual Expo site, and multilingual announcement broadcasts indoors and outdoors, the project will create the “communication of the future” and create an environment where visitors from all over the world can experience global exchange.
・Use of a domestically developed translation engine
The automatic translation system at the Expo will use a domestically developed translation engine. It is being researched and developed as part of an R&D project for the “advancement of multilingual translation technology” as part of the “Global Communication Plan 2025” by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The “Future Society Showcase Project, Digital Expo: Automatic Translation System” at the Expo will showcase to the world the results of this research, development, and demonstration experiments to improve the accuracy of consecutive translation, which is a technology that is already in use, and further advance the technology for simultaneous interpretation.
