MS Porrima, a special supporter of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, is the world’s largest solar ship powered solely by renewable energy. MS Porrima, having a message from Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition to the Expo 2020 Dubai, left Osaka in December 2021 and arrived in Dubai on March 16, 2022. The arrival of MS Porrima became a hot topic in Dubai and was introduced to many local media.
Initiatives by ” MS Porrima” at the Dubai Expo
On March 27, 2022, at the Dubai Expo venue, with the presence of the officials of Dubai Expo and the Expo 2025, His Excellency Mr. Shihab Ahmed ALFAHEEM, UAE Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Saood Al Noori, Bureau Expo Dubai 2020, Mr. ANDO Isao, the Pavilion Director of Japan, and Mr. SAKAI Yoshimasa, Director General of Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, a message which the Association entrusted to MS Porrima “Let’s convey the common wish of the Dubai Expo and the Expo 2025 to children in the world” was delivered to Bureau Expo Dubai 2020.
On March 29, 2022, Director General Sakai of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition paid a courtesy visit to MS Porrima moored in Dubai Marina and had a meeting with ZERI Japan Special Advisor Gunter Pauli and the crew members of MS Porrima. They reconfirmed that they would cooperate with each other until 2025 on the MS Porrima “Blue Odyssey Project” (“TEAM EXPO 2025” program / Co-creation challenge).
After reinforcing the hull and implementing new functions, MS Porrima will depart for a long-term voyage from around the summer of 2023 to 2025, and will return to Osaka during the Expo 2025. As a special supporter of the Expo 2025, MS Porrima will convey the theme and philosophy of the Expo 2025 to all over the world.
