The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”), aiming for the sustainable operation of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”) has established the “Code of Sustainable Procurement (Second edition)” that defines the standards and operational methods to realize consideration for sustainability in the procurement process of goods and services.
The Code of Sustainable Procurement (First edition) was established in June 2022 to reduce the risk of the impact of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan on the environment, society, and economy, and in the expansion of similar efforts, leave a legacy in the fields of environment, society, and economy.
The addition of individual standards for agriculture, livestock, marine products, palm oil, etc. was discussed at the Sustainability Experts Committee and the Sustainable Procurement Working Group. With reference to the opinions solicited on the Association’s website, the Code of Sustainable Procurement (First edition) was revised and the Code of Sustainable Procurement (Second edition) was announced.
The Association announces that to receive and appropriately respond to reports of noncompliance with the Code of Sustainable Procurement, ”Operational Procedures Concerning the Whistleblowing System for the Code of Sustainable Procurement” and the “Outline of the Advisory Panel and the Advisory Group on the Whistleblowing System for the Code of Sustainable Procurement” that define the implementation system, target cases, case processing process, required procedures, operation, etc. were established. Specific contact information will be disclosed on the Association’s website as available.
The Association will continue to work with various stakeholders, including businesses involved in provision, sale, and manufacture, and all organizations involved in the operation of the pavilion, to ensure that procurement of goods and services is carried out in accordance with the “Code of Sustainable Procurement.”
