Press Release

2024.07.03 New Grievance Mechanism and Desk Established To Handle Reports Related to the “Code of Sustainable Procurement”

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) has formulated the “Code of Sustainable Procurement,” which stipulates the standards and operation methods for the procurement process of goods and services, with the aim of ensuring the sustainable operation of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”). To ensure its effectiveness, the Association is establishing and operating a grievance mechanism, to receive and respond appropriately to reports of non-compliance with the Code of Sustainable Procurement, including within the supply chain.
The grievance mechanism at the Expo will handle a wide range of reports on non-compliance with environmental, human rights, labour, and other issues, including within the supply chain, for goods and services procured by the Association and others. Until now, the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan General Contact Centre has been the point of contact for these issues, but the Association has now decided to open a dedicated  desk for reports.
The dedicated desk will be made accessible to a diverse range of nationalities in the supply chain and will be publicised through the creation of publicity materials in multiple languages.
We will continue to work with various stakeholders, including businesses involved in the manufacture, sale, and provision of goods and services, as well as all the organisations involved in the operation of the pavilions to ensure that procurement of goods and services is carried out in accordance with the Code of Sustainable Procurement.
