The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) is pleased to announce that JPQR Global ( JPQR Global”, the first service in Japan to enable foreign visitors to pay using QR code* payment services from their own country) will be launched at the site of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”) on 5 July 2025.
JPQR Global, which is promoted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and was developed in collaboration with the Payments Japan Association, is a system that facilitates coordination between Japan’s unified QR code payment standards “JPQR” and the unified QR code payment standards of various other nations enabling international visitors to Japan to use the QR payment services from their own country as normal in Japan.
As the first example of its use in Japan, KHQR (Cambodian Unified QR Code) payments will be usable from 5 July 2025 at the Cambodia Pavilion, official stores and various other outlets at the Expo site. Further plans are in place to support payment services from several other countries and expand the number of JPQR Global-compatible shops at the Expo site.

JPQR is a unified standard for QR code payments in Japan and was established in 2019. JPQR Global is an initiative to enable QR payment services from other countries to be used in shops and other establishments that have introduced JPQR in Japan. In addition, JPQR Global is also working to enable Japanese QR code payment services participating in JPQR to be used with overseas unified QR code payment systems.
