The Peru Pavilion invites you to embark on a captivating journey through the heart of Peru to explore its rich history, natural beauty, and culinary excellence. This pavilion will give you a tantalising taste of what this vibrant country has to offer – quite literally!
Stepping inside, visitors are transported via a stunning 360-degree video montage across Peru’s diverse landscapes from the ancient peaks of Machupicchu, across the sweeping plains of the Nasca Desert and the verdant depths of the Amazon rainforest to its bustling modern cities. It makes for a breathtaking introduction to the country.
The next room pays homage to the ancient civilizations that shaped Peru while highlighting its modern tourism, trade and investment potential. Exhibits include traditional textiles woven from alpaca wool and agricultural products such as coffee and cacao, as well as Nasca ceramics.
In cooperation with the Lima Museum of Art (MALI), the special exhibition “Nasca: Secrets of the Desert,” showcasing the symbolic world of the ancient Nasca civilization, will be held from Friday, 15 August through Monday, 13 October (a Japanese national holiday), the final day of the Expo.
This exhibition features nine artifacts from the Nasca culture, which flourished in the desert along Peru’s southern coast, including intricately decorated pottery, musical instruments used in rituals, and a gold nose ornament associated with ancestral power. All nine artifacts are genuine national cultural assets, not replicas.
Visitors will also be able to experience the ceremonial space of the ancient Nasca through a video piece that reinterprets mythical ancestors and an audio presentation that combines the sounds of the desert wind with the sounds of antaras (ceremonial ceramic pan flutes) and drum
However, the standout attraction is the daily live cooking and pisco sour tastings. Watch as lively chefs serve up a menu featuring native ingredients such as potatoes, fish, and corn while a narrator explains the significance of each dish. The aroma of fresh spices, herbs and citrus will make your mouth water!
The best part? – you can taste it for free! But hurry as only 400 servings are available each day.
The Peru Pavilion is a multi-sensory celebration of cultural heritage, biodiversity and culinary excellence, that is bound to leave you wanting more!
