Co-creating Cultures for the Future Week
The Future of Architecture and the Circular Economy –The Kids Are Alright-
Agency for Cultural Affairs
This event is a Cultural Affairs Agency-sponsored initiative designed to explore a circular economy and the design of a future society through the lens of Japanese architectural culture. The purpose of this event is to provide children of the Alpha Generation—the next leaders of our society—with an experience to design a carbon-neutral future using their own creativity.

Programme details
Concept
This event incorporates elements of traditional Japanese
aesthetics and techniques—specifically Beauty (美), Technique
(技), Skill (巧), and Artistry (藝)—into its materials and
designs. We believe this union of aesthetics and technique
embodies a worldview that values harmony with nature and
sustainability. These are critical components as we consider
the future of our cities and architecture. Through playful
and profound learning experiences, children will develop a
creative spirit and a forward-looking perspective rooted in
this aesthetic tradition. We believe this is the key to
changing the world. This initiative aims to instill a sense of
confidence in the future, affirming that "The Kids Are
Alright."

Reports
【Reflection】
This exhibition featured a digital installation comparing 3D
images created during the design phase with post-completion
photographs of approximately 30 pavilions characterized by
economic circularity and sustainability.
Concurrently, a workshop was held where children drew future
buildings and cities, powerfully communicating to society that
children are the builders of tomorrow's society.
As a result, it sparked interest in architectural culture
across a broad demographic, forming a legacy with policy
outcomes: nurturing the next generation and promoting
architectural culture.
After the exhibition closed, requested in from house
manufacturer employees, museum enthusiasts, YouTubers, and
others to make the digital installation publicly accessible or
exhibit at theNational Archive of Modern Architecture.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Going forward, "The Future of Architecture and the
Circular Economy" (Tokyo tour) is planned to be held at
the National Archive of Modern Architecture in February 2026,
with the aim of looking back on the two exhibitions held
during the Expo: "Expositions of Japan 1970-2005" in
Tokyo and "The Future of Architecture and the Circular
Economy" in Osaka.
In addition to summarizing the two exhibitions, the exhibition
will collect and make public design materials for the
pavilions at this Expo and information on the reuse of
materials after the Expo ended, and will consider the appeal
of architectural culture that runs through the past, present,
and future from the perspectives of economic circularity and
sustainability.
