Find Out How to Get the Most Out of “One World, One Planet.” From the Production Team Behind It ~Part 1: The secret story behind its creation!~

Hello everyone! We are the “One World, One Planet.” production team.
Over the course of three articles, we will share with you some of the background behind the “One World, One Planet.” drone show that lights up the night sky at the Expo, to help you enjoy it even more. In this first article, we will provide an overview of the event and some insight into how it came to be.
Make sure to check out the video below before reading on.

“One World, One Planet.” is a spectacular show that combines light, sound, and technology across the Expo site and will be held all 184 days of the Expo period. The drone show, which you may have heard of, is part of this show. It also features a “global synesthesia ceremony” that digitally connects the Expo site with the rest of the world under the theme of “wishes.”

1. Theme

Why are we trying to connect the world with wishes?

War, environmental destruction…even as you are reading this blog, many lives are at risk from various dangers around the world. Imagine if everyone would think about other people’s happiness and the future of the Earth, perhaps we could connect everyone’s lives to make things better for everyone. That’s why we decided to attempt a grand experiment to connect lives through wishes at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, which is a “laboratory for future society”.
This idea was the beginning of “One World, One Planet.,” and the reason why we chose “wishes” as the theme.

2. Story

The show centers around two key ideas: “One World” and “One Planet”.
“One World” refers to wishes collected from all over the world that will be guided to the “Tree of Wishes” to be united as one.
Thinking about someone’s happiness and the future of the Earth can help us realize that we are all born from the same planet – this is the meaning of “One Planet”.
Across the drone show, projection mapping, and virtual expo, a woman will appear as a guide for the wishes. Her name is “RITA” after the Japanese word “利他(rita),” which means altruism and represents the wishes we wanted to collect.

3. Event Overview

Finally, we will introduce the various performances that will be featured as part of “One World, One Planet.

Drone Show outside the Grand Ring (South Side)

The drone show has become a familiar sight to visitors to the Expo and can be viewed from many spots across the Expo site. We hope that you will enjoy this grand, beautiful spectacle of 1,000 drones lighting up the night sky.
Please note that as the drones are delicate, they are susceptible to the effects of rain and wind, so the drone show may be cancelled at short notice depending on the weather.

About the Drone Sponsor: REDCLIFF Inc.
REDCLIFF is a group of aviation creators that plans and operates drone shows with the mission of “Bringing surprise and excitement to the night sky.” In 2024, they successfully held Japan’s first show using drones equipped with fireworks and conducted the largest test flight in Japan with 3,000 drones. At Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan they are platinum partner of the Association’s event “One World, One Planet.” During the Expo, they will be holding a drone show with 1,000 drones every night, providing visitors from around the world with an aerial experience. They also actively contribute to revitalizing local communities by incorporating traditional Japanese festivals and events.

Projection Mapping at EXPO Hall “Shining Hat”

The story depicts how wishes from all over the world gather and grow into the “Tree of Wishes.”
This spectacular and powerful projection mapping show is recommended for those who have already seen the drone show, or if the drone show is canceled due to weather. Five minutes before the start of the ceremony, some of the wishes that have been submitted will be introduced. Your wish may even be featured!
*Personally identifiable information will not be displayed.

One World, One Planet. Square (north side of the Singapore Pavilion, in front of the rest area) and Digital Signage in Various Locations

In front of the rest area between the Italy Pavilion and the Singapore Pavilion, there is a permanent cube-shaped monument consisting of four LED screens. It is one of the symbols of “One World, One Planet.”
Since July, we’ve been featuring some of the wishes that have been submitted so far on it, and displaying a QR code for the wish submission website. So, why not take a break in the rest area next door and submit your altruistic wish for the future?

During the ceremony, the images from the projection mapping are resized and projected on the “One World, One Planet. Square” and other digital signage around the Expo site, so please enjoy these beautiful visual effects.

Virtual Expo

By downloading the Virtual Expo app, you can take part in the virtual “One World, One Planet.” event. The Virtual Expo “One World, One Planet.” event has two spaces.
One is the “Fountain of Wishes,” a fantastical fountain you can reach by descending through the virtual space as if you are traveling through your heart. This is where you can submit your wishes. The other space is the “Tree of Wishes.” This special space will appear in the virtual world when the ceremony is held at the actual Expo site and is the only place where you can meet the virtual character “RITA.”
