Designing the future of Shigaraki – Creation of ceramic culture using recycled resources and digital technology –

■ Challenge Content (Product)
In cooperation with the regional production area of Shigaraki ware, we will develop ceramic table stools with motifs of the creatures of Lake Biwa by recycling ceramic waste and utilizing digital technology and will provide them to the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan site. The aim is that these stools will lead to diverse dialogue and co-creation of culture.
The products are produced by Marushi-seitou Co., Ltd., which specializes in large-scale products such as garden pottery, umbrella stands, and water bowls.
This project will lead to the effective use of resources, the reduction of production energy, and the utilization of the latest technology, which are issues facing the production area. It will also contribute to the creation of an attractive pottery culture in the Shigaraki production area to be handed down to future generations.

■ Challenge Content (Experience Plan)
Meizan-togyo Co., Ltd. produces Shigaraki pottery, specializing in pottery dolls, tableware, and flower wares. Their kiln is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan and has been designated as a Japanese Heritage site. Based on the pottery experiences that the company offers, this event will offer visitors the opportunity to create accessories and other small products by utilizing large pottery clay developed and manufactured by the production area association to be used for goods provided at the Expo site, as well as molds and patterns using digital technology for decoration.
In addition, a tour of Marushi-seitou Co., Ltd., which provides ceramic table stools at the Expo site, and an experience of engraving reliefs will be held at the same time.
Through this initiative, we aim to promote and share the attractive ceramic culture of the Shigaraki ware production area for future generations.
