2026.01.16 Results of the Public Bidding on the Reuse Matching Site “EXPO CIRCULAR MARKET MYAKU-ICHI!” (as of 31 December, 2025)

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”, is working to promote the reuse of facilities and equipment throughout the country in the future, as well as to reduce industrial waste, and realise a circular economy through “EXPO CIRCULAR MARKET MYAKU-ICHI!” (hereafter referred to as “MYAKU-ICHI!”), a service that matches supply and demand for the relocation and reuse of facilities, building materials, equipment, supplies, etc. from the Expo site. 

The “MYAKU-ICHI!” website, was launched in August 2024, classifies items into three categories: “Relocation of facilities, etc.” (Category 1), “Reuse of building materials and equipment,”(Category 2) and “Reuse of fixtures and equipment.” (Category 3). Since March 2025, the Association has been seeking and selecting recipients through a public bidding process.

We are pleased to announce the results as of 31 December, 2025 of the bidding for main recipients, etc., for two of the three categories: “Relocation of facilities, etc.” (Category 1) and “Reuse of building materials and equipment,”(Category 2).

Some of bidding processes are also scheduled to be held from January 2026 onwards.

“Relocation of facilities, etc.” (Category 1)

・Three rounds of public bidding were held between June and November 2025 for lumber from the Grand Ring. Approximately 3,700 pieces of lumber, totalling 3,300 m3, will be transferred to 46 parties. The fourth public bidding process began on 15 January, 2026.

・Public bidding for the reuse of parts of the Signature Pavilion buildings, distinctive facilities and event venues, and facilities designed by young architects began from August 2025. The Association plans to continue accepting applications for some of these facilities after January 2026. In addition, applications for the reuse of landscape trees (trees along the garden paths within the venue) were accepted from July to October 2025.。

Among the recipients of the lumber from the Grand Ring, Suzu City in Ishikawa Prefecture will use it as material for reconstructing public housing damaged by the earthquake and heavy rains, Kajima Corporation will use it as material for a large monument at the International Horticultural Expo 2027, Yokohama, Japan (GREEN×EXPO 2027), and Namie Town in Fukushima Prefecture will use it as material for a monument in front of the station.

“Reuse of building materials and equipment,”(Category 2)

・Twelve rounds of public bidding were held for the reuse of building materials and equipment between March and October 2025. Approximately 8,700 items were offered including equipment, building materials, and items unique to the Expo, such as the MYAKU-MYAKU statues, with approximately 5,400 items already scheduled to be transferred.

・The Association received many bids from companies for benches, lighting equipment, air conditioning equipment, lighting poles, etc., and plans to transfer nearly 4,000 items. We received bids from both companies and individuals for table sets and garden umbrellas, and plan to transfer all of them. In addition, the MYAKU-MYAKU statues, MYAKU-MYAKU manhole covers, and guide signs used at the Expo Site were very popular among individuals, receiving many bids.
