The event will also highlight VisitBritain’s new international marketing campaign ‘Starring Great Britain’ which harnesses the powerful pull of screen tourism to attract international visitors. The campaign uses film and tv as hook to tell the story of Britain today, showcasing our diverse destinations. Taking place during DEFRA’s Food & Drink Week, the event will celebrate Britain's culinary scene and highlights the importance of our vibrant food scene to Britain’s tourism offer. The programme will include a market briefing, a networking lunch, a destination workshop, and an afternoon tea reception, providing opportunities for in depth discussion, knowledge sharing, and networking. Through engaging sessions and networking opportunities, UK Tourism Day aims to foster new partnerships, drive product development, and generate media coverage to ensure the UK remains a top choice for Japanese travellers.
Reports
【Reflection】
On 5 June 2025, VisitBritain hosted UK Tourism Day at the UK
Pavilion during the Osaka-Kansai Expo, marking a significant
milestone in the United Kingdom’s continued partnership with
Japan and its broader engagement with the Asia-Pacific region.
The event was strategically designed to enhance the UK’s
reputation as a world-class destination and to strengthen ties
between British tourism stakeholders and the Japanese travel
trade.
The day comprised a series of thoughtfully curated activities,
each intended to foster connections, share insights, and
stimulate interest in UK tourism offerings. Proceedings began
with a welcome lunch and networking session, providing a
relaxed environment for government, industry representatives,
and travel partners to initiate dialogue and explore
collaborative opportunities. The subsequent seminar and mini
workshop featured presentations from VisitBritain and UK
partners, alongside speeches that underscored the UK’s
strengths in science, innovation, culture, and tourism. These
sessions highlighted new regional and themed travel ideas,
including the diversity of food experiences available across
Britain, positioning the UK as a destination with both
traditional charm and innovative appeal.
The afternoon tea reception and VIP gathering further cemented
relationships, offering participants the chance to interact in
a quintessentially British setting. The day concluded with the
opening of the terrace, where British whisky, gin, and Pimm’s
were served, providing an immersive cultural experience and
showcasing premium UK products.
The UK Tourism Day event generated several key outcomes.
Firstly, it succeeded in improving the perception of the UK
amongst Japanese travel trade partners, reinforcing Britain’s
image as a compelling and diverse tourism destination. The
event also fostered economic and trade engagement by enabling
direct dialogue between UK regional tourism representatives
and Japanese stakeholders, which is anticipated to lead to
increased tourism offerings tailored to the Japanese
market.
Moreover, by aligning with the Expo’s theme of "Designing
Future Society for Our Lives," the event demonstrated the
UK’s commitment to innovation and cross-cultural exchange.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
The anticipated long-term effects include sustained regional
growth, strengthened industry and stakeholder partnerships,
and a rise in Japanese visitor numbers to the UK. In summary,
UK Tourism Day at the Expo successfully promoted Britain’s
appeal, cultivated valuable partnerships, and laid the
groundwork for future tourism-led economic growth.
