Reports
【Reflection】
This programme introduced innovative developments in the field
of beneficial microorganisms, focusing on the use of a wide
range of microbial strains collected from Bulgaria’s rich
natural environment. These microorganisms are used to create
probiotics—live bacteria that support digestive and immune
health—and starter cultures, which are microbial blends used
to initiate and control the fermentation process in food
production, especially in dairy products.
Participants gained insights into how traditional Bulgarian
methods of making dairy products are being revitalised through
modern microbiological research, leading to a variety of new
and functional food items.
Particularly noteworthy were the customised starter cultures
made from non-GMO (genetically modified organism) and
naturally derived ingredients, tailored for different types of
dairy products. Other examples included probiotic chocolate
treats designed for children and organic dietary supplements
aimed at improving animal health. These initiatives were well
received, especially in light of the growing global focus on
health, wellbeing, and sustainability.
The company’s strong commitment to innovation also drew
praise, with around 75% of its staff involved in research and
development. This focus enables them to create new products
and improve the functionality of their microbial cultures
continuously. Furthermore, the company is exploring how
beneficial microbes can support oral and skin health, with a
view to developing new products backed by future clinical
trials.
Overall, this programme helped raise awareness of how
Bulgaria’s natural biodiversity is being harnessed through
microbial research, and highlighted its potential for driving
sustainable innovation in both the food and health sectors.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Following the conclusion of the event, we will continue to
disseminate information and monitor research and development
trends related to Bulgarian microbial technology, building
upon the achievements of this programme. By deepening
exchanges between companies and research institutions, we aim
to promote academic and industrial collaboration that
contributes to the advancement of sustainable food and
health-related products.
We also plan to produce accessible publicity materials and
video content to effectively communicate the benefits of
health promotion and naturally derived materials to the
general public. Special focus will be placed on information
dissemination concerning probiotic confectionery for children
and organic supplements for animals, with the goal of raising
health awareness among a broad audience.
Moreover, we will continuously follow the latest developments
in clinical trials and new product innovations, leveraging the
domestic and international networks established through the
Expo to strengthen cooperation with related organisations.
Through these efforts, we intend to support the creation of an
environment conducive to product development and dissemination
grounded in scientific evidence.
Going forward, we remain committed to enhancing related
programmes and information sharing to contribute to the
creation of a healthy and sustainable society.
