Shape New World Initiative
[Hypothesis of the Future in 2050]
As healthcare devices like smartwatches and smart rings
become widely available, they offer unprecedented access to
real-time monitoring of health and activity.
In 2050, we envision a future where healthcare devices not
only monitor but also intervene and treat health
conditions.
We will explore the exciting possibilities, the potential
challenges that new technologies may bring, and the
solutions to shape a healthier world in 2050.

We are featuring exceptional young researchers/entrepreneurs
from around the globe, each pioneering innovative technologies
for monitoring/intervention of our health and physical
activities.
As all the panelists and organizers are aged around 30, and
have great responsibilities in shaping the world in the next
decades, we will begin by sharing our visions for 2050 within
our respective fields.
The discussion will then delve into potential challenges that
could emerge as these technologies become ubiquitous by 2050
—for instance, the management and privacy of health-related
big data, user resistance to new technologies, and disparities
in technology access across different groups of people such as
regions or age.
Finally, we will explore solutions to these challenges,
envisioning how we can shape a more equitable and innovative
world by 2050 and beyond.

【Reflection】
This session, "Shape the Future of Healthcare
Technologies: Navigating and Overcoming 2050’s
Challenges," held as part of the 2025 Osaka-Kansai
Expo's theme week, provided a valuable opportunity for an
in-depth discussion on the future of healthcare technology and
its accompanying challenges.
We were able to engage in a deep discussion about the future
of healthcare technology together with panelists from diverse
backgrounds. We were also able to answer questions from the
audience and thus have two-way communication.
We specifically focused on the psychological and ethical
issues that popular healthcare devices like smartwatches and
smart rings may pose toward 2050. It was a great success to
bring together young researchers and entrepreneurs from
overseas who are developing and commercializing innovative
technologies for monitoring and intervening in physical
activities. Their diverse insights significantly enriched the
discussion.
The speakers introduced us to a range of cutting-edge
healthcare technologies with concrete examples, including a
brain implant to revolutionize cancer treatment, an approach
to improving women's health using commercially available
devices, a real-time sweat component monitoring device, and a
platform combining AI with body heat sensors. These
technologies hold the potential to support people's lives
anonymously and personally, creating a better healthcare
experience.
The session also offered realistic perspectives on the hurdles
in technology development, the process of bringing products to
market, and the societal view that technology should be
accessible to as many people as possible. Through this
dialogue, we believe the participants were able to deepen
their understanding of the excitement for a future brought by
technological advancements, as well as the responsibilities
that come with it. The passion and positive outlook of the
young innovators resonated strongly with the audience, making
it a very constructive session that provided energy for the
next steps.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
To ensure that the "vision for the future of healthcare
technology in 2050" discussed in this session does not
remain a mere conversation but translates into concrete
actions, we will continue our initiatives after the Expo
period. The passion of the young innovators and the insights
they shared serve as a crucial driving force for taking a firm
step toward social implementation. To keep this momentum
alive, we will promote the following activities. And, Draft
recommendations for the World Economic Forum as necessary.
First, we will meticulously summarize the knowledge and
proposals gained from this program and contribute to
international discussions. The aim is to have the
session's dialogue reflected in broader policy-making and
global problem-solving efforts. We intend to further enrich
the content of these recommendations and enhance their
influence through continuous dialogue with experts and leaders
from various fields.
Next, we will strengthen the network of young innovators like
our speakers and build a platform to support them in
addressing common challenges and fostering cross-border
collaboration. This platform will not be a mere space for
information exchange; it will also be equipped with an
incubation function to generate new projects, aiming to create
a sustainable innovation cycle. We will provide comprehensive
support for their activities, including assistance with
specific technology development, joint research on ethical
issues, and opportunities for fundraising.
Furthermore, based on the perspective of "widespread
adoption and price reduction of technology" that was
highlighted in the session, we will advance discussions and
research on models that can realize a society where healthcare
technology is accessible not just to a wealthy few, but to a
wider population. Specifically, we are considering
collaborating with public and non-profit organizations to
conduct pilot programs for low-cost healthcare technologies
and launching international cooperation projects to promote
their introduction in emerging markets. Through these
initiatives, we hope to accelerate concrete actions toward
building a sustainable future for healthcare and bring about a
positive impact on society as a whole, ensuring that the
legacy of the Expo endures.
