Programme details
Delivered in partnership by United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the first and most respected research institution in the UAE, and the University of Tokyo, Japan’s first national university renowned for its academic excellence, this initiative is further strengthened by the inclusion of the University of Nagoya, recognized for its pioneering contributions to medical science and global health research. Together, these institutions bring diverse disciplines and cultural perspectives into a shared space of collaboration through two dynamic panel discussions aimed at shaping the future of global health.
Reports
【Reflection】
This programme was organised in collaboration between the
United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the University of
Tokyo, and Nagoya University, focusing on healthcare research
and development (R&D). It marked a valuable opportunity
for leading institutions from both countries to come together
through keynote speeches, interactive workshops, and panel
discussions, opening new possibilities for cross-border
knowledge exchange and future collaboration.
Two thematic panels shaped the discussions: “Nurturing
Futures” and “Innovating for Health”. The first addressed
maternal and child health, highlighting sustainable healthcare
strategies and community-based approaches, while the second
focused on contemporary challenges such as pandemic
preparedness, healthcare accessibility, and the potential of
digital health. Experts, researchers, and students engaged
actively, sharing insights from diverse perspectives and
contributing to constructive dialogue on shaping the
healthcare systems of tomorrow.
The symposium successfully demonstrated how academic
institutions can serve as platforms for international
cooperation, reinforcing the academic and research ties
between Japan and the UAE.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Building on the outcomes of this programme, UAE and Japanese
institutions are expected to expand continuous exchanges and
joint research in the field of healthcare R&D. In
particular, collaborative projects and student mobility
initiatives are anticipated in key areas such as maternal and
child health, digital innovation, and global strategies for
infectious disease control.
The networks forged during the symposium will provide the
basis for ongoing international dialogue, with regular
opportunities to share expertise and deliver tangible results
for society. By engaging not only academia but also industry
and civil society, the programme has laid the groundwork for a
wider ecosystem of cooperation that supports the development
of next-generation healthcare solutions.
The collaboration fostered at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai is set
to continue well beyond the event itself, contributing
meaningfully to the design of a more sustainable and resilient
future society.
