The MAVIS team of doctors and specialists will be present in
the Pavilion on a daily basis, during the Health and
Well-being Theme Week.
A pshysical body model will be used together with a hologram.
The presentations will last approx. 5 minutes and the visitors
will have the opportunity to learn about the artificial heart
while observing the scientists work at assigned stations.
Reports
【Reflection】
This programme showcased significant achievements in both
technological innovation and educational value through the
development of an artificial heart. Notably, its character as
an educational project stood out, with university students and
research trainees actively engaged in the development process.
Their fresh perspectives and creative approaches have
accelerated progress. The unique design, combining a rotary
pump with magnetic levitation technology, offers a
groundbreaking solution to the long-standing challenges of
blood damage and durability in conventional artificial
hearts.
At the exhibition, the entire development process was
presented – from initial design to rapid prototyping using 3D
printing, functional testing with magnetic levitation, and
performance evaluation with a vascular simulator. Visitors
could directly witness prototypes taking shape and being
tested, gaining an intuitive understanding of the complexity
and precision of medical engineering. The modular team
structure, led by experts in fluid dynamics, biomaterials, and
clinical medicine, demonstrated efficient and flexible
collaboration, which was highly praised.
Based in Romania, the project has established an international
network with Germany, Austria, Belgium, and, in the future,
Japan. Live demonstrations and discussions at the venue
fostered exchanges with overseas researchers and healthcare
professionals, expanding the potential for cross-border
cooperation. As a result, this programme has proven to be a
meaningful initiative, offering hope for the future of
medicine by advancing both cutting-edge medical device
development and talent cultivation.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
The project will continue beyond the Expo, with a focus on
clinical application. The next crucial step involves
pre-clinical testing using a titanium artificial heart
prototype, chosen for its biocompatibility and durability.
These animal trials will provide further scientific validation
and pave the way for potential patient use. Educationally, the
project will maintain active student participation, nurturing
the next generation of medical engineers.
International collaboration will also be deepened. In addition
to strengthening partnerships with European counterparts, the
team aims to expand knowledge-sharing and technical
cooperation with Japan and other Asian countries. This will
enhance the project’s capacity to address diverse healthcare
needs and adapt to different regulatory environments.
Furthermore, the technologies used in this development – such
as 3D printing and magnetic levitation – have potential
applications in other medical devices and even non-medical
industries. Building on the interest and networks gained
during the Expo, the project plans to explore broader uses and
joint initiatives.
Guided by the principle of delivering “solutions for all
humanity”, the team will continue its mission across borders
and disciplines, striving to improve the quality of life for
people living with heart disease worldwide.
