Programme details
Based on the concept of "Build Back Better—for a better
reconstruction," the Reconstruction Agency unfolds
reconstruction stories with four themes. "Earthquake
Remembrance and Disaster Response" showcases the
realities of the earthquake, reconstruction processes, and
city planning for disaster prevention and reduction through
videos and data in chronological order starting before the
earthquake. "Food and Fisheries" shows how the sales
of food and fishery products affected by the earthquake have
recovered and some have even exceeded the levels before the
quake, along with food tasting. "Latest Technology"
introduces the latest technology originating from the disaster
areas to address the issues generated during the recovery
process after the earthquake. "Fukushima Institute for
Research, Education and Innovation (F-REI)" exhibits
research conducted by F-REI.
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will introduce the
endeavors of the people in the Fukushima Hamadoori area, etc.,
who have maintained their local culture and charm in the face
of combined earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disasters, as
well as advanced efforts faced by businesses that are
developing cutting-edge robots, rockets, and other products.

【Reflection】
The Reconstruction Agency and the Ministry of Economy, Trade
and Industry(METI) held an exhibition with the theme
"Build Back Better: A Better Reconstruction from the
Great East Japan Earthquake".
Many people, including Her Imperial Highness Crown Princess
Akishino, foreign dignitaries such as the President of
Hungary, the Governor of Fukushima Prefecture, and local
government leaders, etc., visited the exhibition. In addition
to showcasing various "reconstruction stories" from
the three affected prefectures (Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima),
we also conducted tastings of food and seafood, as well as
discussions with businesses from the Fukushima Hamadori
area,etc.
The Reconstruction Agency has divided the“stories of
reconstruction” of the three prefectures affected by the
disaster into themes such as “Earthquake Remembrance and
Disaster Response,”“Food and Fisheries,” and “Latest
Technology,” based on the concept of “Build Back
Better.”“Fukushima International Research and Education
Institution (F-REI),” among other themes. Additionally, the
agency provided tastings of food and seafood products from the
three disaster-affected prefectures, aiming to raise awareness
of disaster prevention by allowing young people and others to
experience the resilience and regional charm of the three
prefectures through various exhibits. Notably, the exhibit
recreating the actual height of the tsunami prompted some
visitors to recognize the importance of disaster prevention,
with the overall exhibit providing valuable lessons on
disaster preparedness.
Additionally, there was significant feedback on the tasting
sessions, large-scale exhibition panels, and theater
presentations related to disaster legacy themes. In
particular, the tasting sessions received many positive
reviews, not only introducing local products but also serving
as an opportunity to learn about the recovery stories of each
business operator.
METI held the “Fukushima Reconstruction Exhibition” and
introduced the endeavors of the people in the Fukushima
Hamadori area, etc., who have maintained their local culture
and charm in the face of combined earthquake, tsunami, and
nuclear disasters, as well as advanced efforts faced by
businesses that are developing cutting-edge robots, rockets,
and other products.
We showcased the attractions of the Hamadori area, etc.,
through various activities, including panel displays at the
booth, demonstrations of anthropomorphic heavy machinery,
hands-on experiences such as interacting with beetles and
virtual cycling, various workshops, performances on stage by
the landladies of Iwaki Yumoto Onsen and participants of the
Soma Nomaoi festival, as well as talk sessions and
presentations by businesses from the Hamadori area, etc. We
also offered tastings of local products like
"Joban-mono," fish from Fukushima. Additionally, in
the message corner set up at the exhibition venue, we received
over 1,100 messages regarding the future of the Hamadori area,
etc., including several messages in foreign languages.
Furthermore, we created a "START!! FROM FUKUSHIMA
HAMADOORI Activity Declaration" board, which featured the
aspirations of more than 100 participating businesses
regarding their future challenges and efforts to expand the
population engaged in activities in the Hamadori area, etc.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
The Reconstruction Agency is collaborating with other Expo
events and various other events to display Theme Week
exhibition content. In addition, by turning Theme Week
exhibitions and other content into “legacy,” the agency aims
to convey the current state of reconstruction in
disaster-affected areas and promote understanding.
Additionally, during the event period, the Digital Monument
“The Growing ‘Miracle Pine Tree’” installed in the East Gate
Zone of the Expo venue, as well as the Osaka-Kansai Expo
Reconstruction Portal Site, the Disaster-Affected Three
Prefectures Heritage Museum, and the Hyogo Prefecture People
and Disaster Prevention Future Center, are implementing the
“Never Forget 3.11. Connecting Hearts for the Future Letter”
initiative and soliciting messages.
Furthermore, for those who were unable to visit the venue
during the event period and to promote understanding of
disaster prevention, we have preserved the exhibition items as
360-degree VR content. Please take a look below.

We will continue to work with related organizations to
consider ways to utilize the exhibits to attract visitors to
the three prefectures affected by the disaster.
METI has created an archive page for the Fukushima
Reconstruction Exhibition to preserve the exhibition contents,
the atmosphere during the exhibition period, the "START!!
FROM FUKUSHIMA HAMADOORI Activity Declaration," and the
messages received from visitors as a legacy. This will be
utilized in future efforts to expand the population engaged in
activities in the Hamadori area, etc.
You can find the archive page at the following link:

Additionally, the "HAMADOORI TABLE," shaped like the
15 cities and towns in the Hamadori area, etc., along with the
messages from visitors and the "START!! FROM FUKUSHIMA
HAMADOORI Activity Declaration," will be displayed in the
entrance hall of The Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear
Disaster Memorial Museum in Futaba Town, Fukushima Prefecture,
starting June 25 and for the foreseeable future. This will
allow all visitors to the memorial museum to view them
freely.
Moving forward, we will leverage the excitement generated by
the Osaka-Kansai Expo to create a vibrant atmosphere in the
Hamadori area, etc. We will continue to advance efforts to
expand the population engaged in activities and related
populations by maximizing the outcomes based on feedback from
surveys conducted during the exhibition and comments from
participating businesses.
