Programme details
As ITU observes its 160th anniversary in 2025, it is seizing
this moment to shape a better digital future for all. ITU will
host a one-week exhibition during the theme week on the future
of community and mobility, highlighting its role in fostering
international cooperation, connecting the unconnected, and
ensuring that digital technologies drive meaningful change.
Through various mediums, visitors will experience ITU’s impact
in everyday life—from the phones in our hands to the
satellites in the sky. Coinciding with World Telecommunication
and Information Society Day (May 17), this exhibit will
celebrate ITU’s past and inspire future collaboration to
ensure technology benefits everyone, everywhere.
Reports
【Reflection】
The ITU’s 160th Anniversary Exhibition at Expo 2025
successfully raised international awareness of the Union’s
pivotal role in advancing universal meaningful connectivity.
Held over six days as part of the “Future of Community and
Mobility” theme week, the exhibition offered visitors a highly
visual and interactive experience, showcasing ITU’s historic
achievements, ongoing initiatives, and future aspirations.
One of the most notable outcomes was the effectiveness of
“physical storytelling” in communicating complex technological
topics in an accessible and engaging manner. By making
abstract issues tangible, the exhibition helped a wide
audience — including members of the public, students, and
professionals — to better understand the importance of ITU’s
work in building a more connected world. Timed to coincide
with World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on 17
May, the exhibition further highlighted ITU’s global mission
and long-standing commitment to inclusive digital
transformation.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Following the exhibition, ITU has been leveraging the momentum
generated at Expo 2025 to deepen engagement with stakeholders
across key areas of digital development. The exhibition
materials have been adapted for global dissemination, ensuring
that the content continues to reach diverse audiences
worldwide.
Furthermore, the exhibition itself was restructured and
relocated to Palexpo in Geneva, where it was showcased during
the WSIS+20 and AI for Good summits. This new presentation
allowed ITU to extend the reach of its 160th anniversary
legacy to an even broader international audience. Building on
the experience and success of the Expo, the exhibition now
serves as an ongoing platform for sharing ITU’s vision and
activities, supporting continued dialogue and cooperation in
the pursuit of inclusive and sustainable digital futures.
