Sustainability initiatives

In order to manage the economic, social and environmental impacts of event management, Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan operates a management system to support the sustainability of events (ESMS: Event Sustainability Management System) and is working to realize a sustainable Expo.
In August 2024, we acquired ISO20121 certification, the international standard for ESMS.

Policies and Visions

Sustainability Policy of EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan

We determined “Sustainability Policy of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan” in April 2022.
The policy aims to hold the EXPO that provides new solutions to sustainability challenges, with the 5 Ps of “Sustainable Development Goals”(SDGs) (People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, Partnership) as its aspects.

Sustainability Action Plan of EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan

Based on the ” Sustainability Policy of EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan”, we determined “Sustainability Action Plan of EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (1st Edition)” in April 2023. This action plan shows the overall picture of our plan to achieve sustainability through the preparation and operation of the Expo and makes the first annual report to stakeholders.

EXPO 2025 Green Vision

Towards the sustainable operation of the EXPO, we determined “EXPO 2025 Green Vision” in April 2022.
The vision contains the directions and initiatives towards achieving “Carbon Neutral” and “Circular Economy” in the operation of the EXPO.

Code of Sustainable Procurement

For the sustainable EXPO operations, we determined “Code of Sustainable Procurement“.
The code contains standards and practices to consider sustainability in the procurement process of goods and services.

A Whistleblowing section concerning the Procurement Code

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition (hereinafter referred to as “the Organiser of the World Expo 2025 ”) has established a Whistleblowing section concerning the Procurement Code to properly respond to the reports concerning noncompliance with the Procurement Code.
A whistleblowing section applies to everything that is procured by the Organiser of the World Expo 2025, including goods and services, related to the International Exposition, Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”), procured by Suppliers, Licensees, Pavilion Organisers and Sponsors, with the scope extending to supply chains.

<Note>
The Organiser of the World Expo 2025 is a temporary organization that will be dissolved after the Expo. Therefore, operations of a whistleblowing section is scheduled to close at the end of 2025. Thus, there is a possibility that its process may not be completed as scheduled under the operational standards, depending on the timing and contents of the report.

Human Rights Policy of Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition

In order to respect the human rights of all people involved in the Expo project, the Japan Association for the 2025 World Expo formulated the Human Rights Policy of Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition in April 2024.

Reporting desk for human rights issues related to Expo 2025

We address cases related to business and human rights issues that conflict or are suspected of conflicting with the international standards such as the International Bill of Human Rights and the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, as well as the Human Rights Policy of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition.
You can report anonymously without disclosing personal information including your name. We respect the privacy of the reporting party and maintain strict confidentiality. The reported contents will be handled appropriately by dedicated staff of the Sustainability Bureau in charge, and necessary action will be taken.
The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition strictly prohibits any form of retaliation against those who make a report. The reporting party will not be disadvantaged due to reporting.
