The Future of Earth and Biodiversity Week
Nature in the loop: Building a greener economy together
European Union
Experts from various fields will explore how these two frameworks can work together to drive sustainable innovation, reduce waste and promote resource efficiency. Through real-world examples and engaging dialogue, we'll discuss strategies for integrating biological resources into circular systems, the role of policy in supporting these transitions, and the potential for creating a regenerative economy.

The synergy between bioeconomy and circular economy is a
powerful driver for sustainable development. Both frameworks
emphasise resource efficiency and the sustainable use of
natural assets, but they do so from slightly different
angles.
What is bioeconomy and what is the link with circularity?

Reports
【Reflection】
The session explored how bioeconomy and circular economy can
be combined to drive sustainable innovation, reduce waste, and
improve resource efficiency, using real-world examples and
interactive dialogue. It also examined the role of policy in
enabling this transition and the potential for a regenerative
economy.
Key findings
Complementary frameworks.
Bio- and circular-economy approaches together offer a coherent
route to cut waste and boost resource efficiency while
fostering innovation across sectors.
Policy as an enabler.
Policies that connect design, markets and data, supported by
case-based learning and dialogue, can accelerate adoption.
Toward regenerative outcomes.
Integrating biological resources into circular systems opens
pathways for regenerative value creation alongside efficiency
gains.
Conclusion
The session aligned participants on integrating bio- and
circular-economy approaches to translate resource efficiency
and waste reduction into regenerative value.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Implementation focus
Build an operating model that integrates biological resources
into circular systems, starting with small pilots and scaling
based on evidence.
Priority actions
Select use cases: identify opportunities where bio-resource
integration can deliver value (e.g., by-product use,
substitution with regenerated inputs).
Connect design–market–data: define circular design
requirements, market acceptance conditions and a minimal data
set for tracking.
Engage enabling policies: map relevant support schemes and
standards; assign focal points to lower adoption barriers.
Co-create and test: run interactive, case-based trials with
public, private and research partners to validate
resource-efficiency and waste-reduction outcomes.
Review and scale: institutionalise regular reviews and expand
the integrated approach to additional lines.
Conclusion
A pilot–review–scale cycle can operationalise the integrated
bio + circular approach and turn efficiency and
waste-reduction goals into practice.
