Programme details
JSAI 2025 is the Japanese largest class academic event of AI,
hosted by the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence
(JSAI). It will mark the 39th edition in 2025.
In response to the recent boom in generative AI, participants
will include researchers, industry professionals, students,
and others from diverse backgrounds. Attendance is expected to
increase from approximately 3,800 participants (including
approximately 2,900 on-site attendees) at JSAI 2024.
During the event, sessions related to "Expo 2025 Osaka,
Kansai, Japan" and opportunities for information exchange
will be held to explore synergies between cutting-edge AI
technology and the Expo initiatives.
Reports
【Reflection】
The Annual Conference of the Japanese Society for Artificial
Intelligence (JSAI) is the largest academic event in Japan
dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI). It serves as a
platform for researchers engaged in cutting-edge academic
research to share information, and it also attracts attention
from an industrial application perspective. In addition, there
are a variety of sessions, including sessions for students who
will lead the future of AI technology in Japan and
internationally, as well as sessions open to the general
public. This year, marking its 39th anniversary, the
conference was held in Osaka during the EXPO 2025 Osaka-Kansai
World Expo, hence we decided to establish “EXPO Collaborative
Sessions” and make them widely open to the public.
During the conference, six planned sessions and two invited
lectures were held as EXPO Collaborative Sessions. We were
able to hold a wide variety of sessions targeting a diverse
audience, including sessions on education, cross-disciplinary
topics, and interactive competitions.
The invited lecture by Shane Gu, Senior Staff Research
Scientist at Google DeepMind, titled ‘The Future of AI: From
Lab to Real World – Next-Generation Breakthroughs Driven by
Active Learning’ and the invited lecture by Sachiko Nakajima,
CEO of steAm, titled ‘Enhancing Life Together with AI –
Playful STEAM in the Age of Democratized Creativity’ were
particularly well received.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
The Journal of the Japanese Society for Artificial
Intelligence (bimonthly) has launched a special series titled
“Letʼs Go! Osaka-Kansai EXPO!” dedicated to the 2025
Osaka-Kansai World Expo. The series is running over four
issues, starting with the March 2025 issue (Vol. 40, No. 2)
and will conclude with the September 2025 issue (Vol. 40, No.
5). The series explores the future of the Expo and artificial
intelligence from various perspectives, including not only
topics related to the Japanese Society for Artificial
Intelligence but also ways to enjoy the 2025 Osaka-Kansai
World Expo.
Following the conclusion of the Theme Week Connect program, we
plan to publish reports on each session in the journal.
Additionally, based on the content and lessons learned from
the program, we will continue to pursue efforts aimed at
enabling more people to experience the cutting-edge
advancements and future prospects of artificial intelligence
research in Japan.
