Programme details
1. Opening【11:30-12:10】
Based on the experience of COVID-19, the speaker will discuss
the significance of One Health from a medical and scientific
perspective and the need to address One Health to prepare for
the next pandemic.
2. Memorial lecture【12:10-13:10】
Based on the current situation surrounding the global
environment, the lecturer will discuss the importance of
protecting our beautiful planet and what we can do to achieve
this goal.
3. Talk show【13:40-14:25】
Under the theme of “Protecting the Sea,” the talk show will
discuss the current state of environmental pollution, the
importance of the natural environment and biodiversity, and
what can be done to protect the ocean.
4. Panel discussion【14:55-15:55】
Under the theme of “Protecting the Forest,” the panelists will
discuss the joys of interacting with nature through mountain
climbing and camping, the risk of zoonosis from inappropriate
contact with wildlife, and what can be done to protect
forests, mountains, and wildlife.

Opening
Associate Professor, Kyushu University, Institute for Asian
and Oceanian Studies Dr. Fumihiko Yokota gave a lecture on
preparing for future pandemics through the concept of One
Health, drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the lecture, he explained specific actions individuals
can take as part of future preparedness.
Commemorative Address
Scientist/Astronaut Dr. Mamoru Mohri explained what each
individual can do to protect the global environment from a
space perspective, under the theme “Protect Our Beautiful
Earth.”
Talk show
Under the theme “Protect the Ocean,” News Anchor Ms. Rie
Sasaki moderated a panel featuring Actor/TV personality Mr.
Takatoshi Kaneko, Fukuoka One Health Master Ms. Saya Tanaka,
and Governor, Fukuoka Prefecture Seitaro Hattori. The talk
show began by sharing the severity of marine debris issues
through videos and data produced by Fukuoka Prefecture,
emphasizing the detrimental effects of plastic waste on marine
life, ecosystems, and ultimately humans.
Fukuoka Prefecture introduced multifaceted initiatives,
including the “10,000-Person Cleanup Operation,” the
“SpoGOMI!” tournament that combines sports with litter
collection, activities transforming collected beach waste into
art, simultaneous cleanups along the Japan-Korea Straits
coastline, and seagrass bed restoration and carbon crediting
through blue carbon.
Furthermore, as future initiatives, they announced plans to
promote One Health alongside citizens through the “One Health
Future Conference.”
Finally, the speakers emphasized that enjoying the ocean and
protecting it through action will lead to a rich ocean in the
future.
Panel discussion
A panel discussion was held on the theme of “Protect the
Forest,” featuring TV personality Mr. Takeshi Tsuruno,
Research Scientist, Forestry and Forest Products Research
Institute Dr. Kimiko Okabe, President, Certified NPO
Sansonjuku Mr. Kota Komori, President-Elect World Veterinary
Association/President Japan Veterinary Medical Association
Isao Kurauchi D.V.M., Ph.D., and News Anchor Ms. Rie
Sasaki.
The discussion covered “The Importance of Forests and the
Challenges They Face” and “What We Can Do to Protect Forests,”
with various opinions shared by the panelists.
Among these, the view was expressed that it is important to
enter the forest and enjoy it.
Throughout the entire program, participants listened
attentively and gained a clear understanding of the importance
of the One Health approach and what each of us can do to
protect our global environment.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
We aim to protect the lives, health, and livelihoods of our
citizens from threats such as zoonotic diseases by promoting
the One Health concept and its implementation globally,
thereby contributing to the advancement of One Health
worldwide.
